Henry Cavill Leads an All-Star Cast in Argylle, Set for 2024 Release

Henry Cavill’s upcoming spy thriller Argylle, which was developed as an Apple TV+ original movie, has secured an official 2024 theatrical release date.

The movie features a stellar cast that includes Sam Rockwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, John Cena, Bryan Cranston and Samuel L. Jackson, as well as singer-songwriter Dua Lipa in her second acting role after Barbie. Apple TV+ acquired the rights for the movie in a $200 million deal in late 2021, with the intention of launching a new franchise.

Variety reports that Apple has partnered with Universal Pictures to give the upcoming film a theatrical release date before its streaming premiere.

The film is scheduled to hit theaters on February 2, 2024, while the streaming date remains unknown. This is part of a growing strategy for Apple, which has also planned theatrical releases for some of its other major film projects, such as Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon and Ridley Scott’s Napoleon.

Argylle is directed by Matthew Vaughn, the filmmaker behind Kingsman. The film is based on a novel by debut author Ellie Conway, which has not been published yet. The screenplay is written by Jason Fuchs, who also wrote Wonder Woman.

The film stars Cavill as a top spy with amnesia who is deceived into thinking that he is a successful novelist. The novel is set to be released in November 2023, but Vaughn has high hopes for the film adaptation and aims to turn it into a franchise.

Vaughn has described Conway’s manuscript as one of the best spy thrillers he has ever read and has compared his vision for Argylle to classic ‘80s action thrillers like Die Hard and Lethal Weapon.

The director, who has experience in adapting spy stories, has revealed that he cast Cavill as the lead because of the actor’s potential as a James Bond. He said he needed someone who could play Bond and he thought of the Man of Steel actor, who had auditioned for 007 and is still a popular choice for the role.

Argylle has a strong cast and a thrilling plot that will generate more excitement as its release date approaches. It is unclear if the film will launch the franchise that Vaughn envisions, but he has the star power to attract attention to a possible new competitor to the James Bond series.
