Henry Cavill Proves He Is Dedicated to The Witcher’s 7-Season Run

The Witcher’s story on Netflix is only beginning. Henry Cavill has assured his commitment to the role to fulfill show creator Lauren Schmidt Hissrich’s 7-season vision.

The show is set to return in December for Season 2, with Netflix already in talks for greenlighting more seasons along with other spin-offs.

It is already known that Cavill was a big fan of The Witcher video games and had worked hard to get Geralt’s spot.

So, when it comes to reprising his role for four additional seasons after Season 3, Cavill is enthusiastic in his dedication, as long as “we can keep telling great stories which honor [author Andrzej] Sapkowski’s work.”

As The Witcher’s production did have some extra time during the pandemic to reflect on things, one of Cavill’s significant contributions was to give Geralt more depth, stating that in the books, the audience is inside the witcher’s head quite a bit.

And while show viewers enjoyed Geralt’s non-committal huffing, puffing, and grunting, it would better serve the story if Geralt talked more and opened up. One great avenue for this would be through his interactions with Ciri.

To the end, Hissirch also dishes out that Cavill sent her a bunch of emails suggesting to either tweak some of the Season 2 scripts or adapt certain iconic storylines from the books.

But Hissrich notes Cavill’s dedication in several different ways too—despite being the central figure in the production, Cavill ensures that he is not the eye of the hurricane, so to speak.

When he injured his hamstring on set, he decided to pull through with filming while attending physical therapy and rehabilitation during his off-hours.

As Cavill himself describes the experience:

The difficulty was working while I was injured. I wanted to do more for the production—I know how important it was for them to get stuff done. So it was having to find that balance between.

I’m sure the team appreciated the effort! This only goes to show that although a seven-season run might be ambitious, The Witcher may just pull it off!

The Witcher Season 2 will return to Netflix on December 17. Cavill will be joined by Anya Chalotra’s Yen and Freya Allen’s Ciri, among others.
