After the fall of the almighty Demon Lord, a competition was set up to find the next leader destined to defeat the human race. However, the one leading the rankings and favored to win the tournament is none other than another human by the name of Helck.

Vermilio, the tournament manager, gains wind of what’s happening and tries to sabotage the plans. Helck’s pure strength, as well as all-around charisma and skill in every feat, makes it impossible to stop him, but there is more to his story than has been revealed.

1. Episode 2 Speculation

The Demon Realm is under attack by white-winged knights, something that has never been seen before by humans. While they were stronger than any hero they had met, it was by far the most dangerous threat they had had to face, especially without a Demon Lord to protect them.

Vermilio will have to decide now since Asta’s report has concluded that Helck hates the human race, especially since he killed his brother, the Great Hero. She will likely depend on Helck to stop this colossal attack, and he will gladly oblige.

3. Recap of Episode 1

Helck stands in the arena of gladiators fighting for the position of Demon Lord and proves his overwhelming strength in all his battles. The Human realm has been in celebration and joy ever since the previous Demon Lord was felled, but a tournament to replace him was immediately started within three months.

The manager watches some preliminary rounds and takes a keen interest in Helck, one of the favorites to win this tournament. Even though he’s a human, he announces his pledge to destroy all humans. The manager expresses her concern, but there is a contract that prevents all the participants from harming anyone else.

She cannot believe that a human would want to become the Demon Lord and keeps trying to spot some secret plan of his to infiltrate the Demon Realm. However, with every toss and turn, he constantly proves his hatred for humans and camaraderie with his fellow participant demons.

Under Vermilio’s orders, a demon spy is dispatched to find information about the hero Helck, and she wanders the abandoned town in search of any clues. The manager desperately wants Helck out of the tournament, and they decide to change the format of the next battle.

The match is one to make a giant house of cards, and they provide Helck with extremely glossy cards to sabotage him. However, they’ve underestimated their opponent, who makes the castle so fast that everybody else’s cards fly away with the wind.

Asta finally reports to her twin sister Ista and asks about the tournament, which Helck continues dominating. Vermilio receives the spy’s report, which labels Helck as the worst criminal in human history for killing his brother, the hero who beat the Demon Lord.

The spy had visited three towns, but not a human was found in one of them. However, her report is interrupted by another emergency warning that says Castle Urum has fallen to many flying white knights stronger than any hero thus far, prompting Vermilio to take measures to protect their current castle.

Helck is a manga series written and illustrated by Nanaki Nanao. It was serialized online on Shogakukan’s Ura Sunday Website and MangaONE app from May 2014 to December 2017. It has been collected into 12 volumes.

A short spin-off manga titled Piwi: Fushigi na Ikimono was also released in 2018, with its chapters collected in one volume. Another prequel manga series, titled Völundio: Divergent Sword Saga is currently ongoing since its launch in August 2020.
