Helck and Vermilio stumble upon a pedlar’s town in episode 10 of Helck titled “In Pursuit of a Map.”

While trying to find a map of the Empire, the two heroes find a small town full of merchants. They find a map seller who has what they want, but he charges a massive amount of money. In order to make some quick cash, Helck enters a cooking competition.

Vermilio has complete faith in Helck’s ability to win the competition since she’s already tried his meals. He fights against the most experienced chefs in the land and still comes out on top.

Helck and Vermilio have finally found a map of the Empire and can start making progress on getting back. However, they must cross the abandoned area between the two Kingdoms to get there. The map seller warns him of the danger present there.

A warrior of darkness roams that land and kills anyone who trespasses. Regardless of this warning, they will still have to go through with confidence in Helck’s strength. Even if someone shows up to kill them, Helck and Vermilio are the strongest beings on the continent.

The Tothman King stands tall above Helck and tries to punch him in his empowered form. Helck jumps backward to dodge the attack, and Vermilio casts a fire spell. It cuts his arm off, but the monster regenerates almost instantly.

Helck assures him that he’ll put him out of his misery and punches him. In a single knockout, the Tothman King starts turning into dust. All the barbarians express their gratitude to Helck and Vermilio and walk away. The curse of the village is lifted, and everybody turns to normal.

They continue their journey to the next village and hear about the war. Both the Kingdoms were destroyed by the end of the battle. Helck and Vermilio reach a pedlar’s town, find a map seller, and try to negotiate a deal.

While trying to find a way to make more money, they hear about a cooking competition. All the contestants are veteran cooks who have participated in competitions for years. Ajikaba is the most famous of them all since he’s gone undefeated for years.

The first challenge is to make One-pot dishes, and everybody gets to a fast start. All the other competitors have a unique way of cooking the food; Ajikaba has a main-character moment while cooking the most incredible dish ever known to these locals.

Helck and Vermilio aren’t out of the fight just yet and start making their own delicious meal. Watching his fast-cutting skills, Ajikaba and the others begin getting intimidated. The judges declare the end of the round, and all the competitors are confident in their dishes.

Master Ryo is the judge and comments on each dish, with Ajikaba leading the rankings. After tasting Helck’s dish, he’s overwhelmed with emotions and declares him the victor. After the battle, Piwi shows up with some food.

Helck is a manga series written and illustrated by Nanaki Nanao. It was serialized online on Shogakukan’s Ura Sunday Website and MangaONE app from May 2014 to December 2017. It has been collected into 12 volumes.

A short spin-off manga titled Piwi: Fushigi na Ikimono was also released in 2018, with its chapters collected in one volume. Another prequel manga series, titled Völundio: Divergent Sword Saga is currently ongoing since its launch in August 2020.
