Their impact is greater than you can ever imagine, and we’ll get to experience it again next year.

Studio Ghibli has confirmed Hayao Miyazaki’s new film ‘How Do You Live?’ will open in Japan on July 14, 2023. The current title is tentative, and the studio has also revealed a key visual for the movie.

The poster is very cryptic as it features a bird but doesn’t explain what it is or how it is relevant to the film.

As Miyazaki had revealed previously, the movie is inspired by his favorite novel, ‘How Do You Live?’ by Genzaburō Yoshino. However, the story won’t be fully adapted from it as Miyazaki has revealed that the book holds great meaning to the film’s protagonist.

Moreover, Miyazaki has been credited for the original story, direction, and script. Studio Ghibli will reveal more staff and the cast later.

Since the film is inspired by Miyazaki’s favorite book, everyone should know what it is about.

To put it simply, Genzaburō Yoshino’s ‘How Do You Live?’ is a Ghibli film written as a novel. While reading this book, one can quickly figure out where Miyazaki gets his inspiration from and why Studio Ghibli films feel like an otherworldly experience.

The story follows a 15-year-old boy, Copper, who recently lost his father and pondered upon the philosophy of life. He often thinks about how many people there are in the world and their lives while gazing over his hometown Tokyo.

Yoshino has beautifully captured pre-war Japan and its peculiarity, which makes it surreal yet mesmerizing. During this time, Copper embarks on a philosophical journey on his bike and learns from friends and family what really matters in life.

Studio Ghibli’s producer Toshio Suzuki had previously revealed in an interview that the movie would be 125 minutes long. Considering the theme it’s based on and the time of its release, ‘How Do You Live?’ will be the perfect summer film next year.

What do you think about Miyazaki’s upcoming movie? Will it be another masterpiece that will take you down a nostalgic lane? Or will it be a completely new one? Let us know in the comments.
