Kags was back row so he cannot dump. The ball was received but was going over the net. Kags feinted as if he was going to set, so no one went to block him.
At the last moment, he stopped his setting motion and let the ball go past the net. This caught Hinata off guard since we know Kags used to set regardless of how difficult the ball would be to get.

The chapter starts with a flashback to Chapter 4, “The Greatest Teammate,” when Hinata was recognized as the greatest teammate of Kageyama.
The chapter continues with the childhood of Tobio Kageyama, where we see his volleyball career start at the age of 10 months.
We also get a rare glimpse into Kageyama’s training as a volleyball player by his grandfather and sister. In the end, we see him recognizing Hinata as the greatest opponent his grandfather had mentioned all those years ago.

Hinata Shoyo is a highly passionate boy who wishes to follow the steps of his idol, ‘The Little Giant’ in the field of volleyball.
Hinata’s resolve is unbreakable as he faces gruesome defeat at the hands of the ‘King of the Court’ a genius prodigy setter Kageyama Tobio in middle school. Hinata’s dreams take fruit as he enters high school.
Hinata joins the declining volleyball team of Karasuno High and is appalled to find the very same Kageyama as his teammate. As Kageyama and Hinata realize the potential of their abilities as a duo, Karasuno High starts taking flight with the opportunities at hand.
The story follows the revival of Karasuno High and the unity they maintain to pave their way for nationals.
