Gundam’s first new anime series in seven years has made some pretty surprising announcements in the past few months. This time Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury is back with some fresh details that have left fans stupified.
Not only will the series debut a new plot after so long, but it will also have a female protagonist, a first in the Gundam franchise. All in all, everyone is just looking at the calendar and counting down the days until its release.
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury will be released in October 2022. Before the anime premieres, it will receive a prequel named Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury Prologue. The prologue will debut on July 14, 2022.
The new anime is set in an era where corporations have built a vast economic system in space. It was previously revealed that the anime’s protagonist is Suletta Mercury. She is a lone girl from the planet Mercury who enters the Asticassia School of Technology.
Suletta is the pilot of the Gundam Aerial, which was made on her home planet.
Apart from the protagonist, some other main characters were recently revealed as well:
Miorine Rembran is a second-year in the management strategy department. She is intelligent and is the only daughter of Delling Rembran.
Guel is the heir to the Jeturk Heavy Machinery and is a third-year in the piloting department. He is the ace of his family and is proud but temperamental. He pilots Dilanza.
Elan is the top pilot backed by Peil Technologies. He is also a third-year pilot and is a solitary person who has an interest in Suletta. He pilots the Gundam Pharact.
Last but not least, we have Shaddiq Zenelli from the Grassley Defense Systems. He is an adopted child who has skills in business as well as piloting. His Gundam of choice is Michaelis.
The prequel has its own story and mobile suits, and it seems like the new series will combine a perfect amount of politics with all the space action. With a new Gundam and a perky new protagonist, the series is all ready to take over the kaiju category once again.
