Guardians of the Galaxy: Uncertain Update on the Trilogy’s Future

The viral group of hitchhikers was first introduced in 2014. They have appeared in five additional MCU movies, with 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 marking the end of the way for the characters. 

Screen Rant interviewed Sean Gun at the Saturn Awards last Sunday, where he confessed that he’s oblivious about the Guardians’ MCU future. 

While he didn’t trample over the possibility of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4, here’s what he said: 

I honestly have no idea. There’s always things going on in the kitchen at Marvel, where they’re kind of figuring out the near future and the far future. But if I told you what they’re doing with the Guardians, I’d be lying.

Marvel Studios hasn’t been having a gala time at the box office lately. The Multiverse Saga has been highly prone to creative flaws and plot inconsistencies, which has sparked much criticism for the juggernaut franchise. Moreover, they have had to deal with calamities like the COVID-19 pandemic and the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes. Therefore, Marvel isn’t in need of pursuing a story featuring these characters for now. At least not before they deal with the flaws in their latest creatives. 

Rushing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4, solely because of its commercial success, will only invite more criticism. Presently, Marvel should focus on architecting a perfect ending for The Multiverse Saga, including the fate of Kang after firing Jonathan Majors. 

On top of that, several MCU movies are stuck in production, like the reboots for Fantastic Four, Blade, X-Men, and the next two Avengers movies.

Therefore, postponing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4 until the end of The Multiverse Saga will not be a bad idea. While fans wait for their comeback, they can enjoy the three Guardians of the Galaxy movies on Disney+ or buy them on Blu-ray/DVD.
