Golgo 13 recently made the news by breaking the record for the most manga volumes ever published. Some of us may think 201 volumes are enough, but Takao Saito has no intention of stopping as he reveals the long-awaited spinoff to the beloved manga.
In its entire run of over half a century, Golgo 13 surprisingly never had any spinoffs.
For a series that changes settings often and almost no recurring characters, it was hard to think what the spinoff would be about. But now as we have the answer, it almost seems as obvious as the day.
The Golgo 13 spinoff titled Gunsmith Dave has started its serialization in the August special issue of the Big Comic Magazine.
The visual for the manga shows Dave cleaning up an M16 rifle with a scythe behind his back, probably a symbol for a Death Reaper, like Duke.
Gunsmith Dave or Dave Mccartney is a special gunsmith hired by Duke Togo to fix his signature M16 sniper rifle. He sometimes also customizes several computer components and special bullets in order to meet the job’s demands.
Despite being one of the only characters we see again, the very few times Dave shows up in the manga makes him almost forgettable. Hopefully, that would not be the case now.
Many fans were speculating this spinoff to be about Duke’s origins which have been a huge mystery all this time. While this may be about Dave, we might just get a hint or two about Duke’s past. It would not be a surprise as Duke seems to have known him for a long time.
Now that the mystery behind the spinoff has solved itself, we wait to get answers to some old questions. Like how did Dave and Duke meet? Does he know Duke’s real name? Or what is their real relationship?
