George R. R. Martin Happy with House of the Dragon and Other Spinoffs

No one spills as exciting details and constant updates about future projects as author George R.R. Martin does on his blog.

In a new post, the Game of Thrones creator gave updates on a handful of new projects, including prequels, animated titles, and more about the highly-anticipated House of the Dragon series.

On Wednesday, Martin posted on his NOT A BLOG website, starting with The Winds of Winter, adding that he has made some slow progress on the book this past year.

Martin mentioned that A Song of Ice & Fire remains his “number one priority” as he’s simultaneously also working on the second volume of Archmaester Gyldayn’s history, Fire & Blood, which he intends to name Blood & Fire.

On the paperback end of things, the author also revealed that a new illustrated coffee table condensed version of Fire & Blood is set to come out later this year with Elio Garcia, Linda Antonsson and art director Raya Golden. This will be followed by another Thrones-related book, Who’s Who in Westeros.

Martin’s vision will translate well from page to film as the author promised that this time around, he’ll be deeply involved in all of the new shows based on his works.

As for the adaptations and tv shows, Martin confirmed that House of the Dragon is on the right track, stating,

“What I have seen, I have loved. I am eager to see more. I am excited about the other successor shows as well, however. I am dying to tell you all about them, but I am not supposed to, so…”

The author updated on a few more projects anyway, saying that he has hoped one or more live-action, as well as animated shows for HBO Max, will get a go-ahead from the studio as the world of Westeros has a lot to explore.

Martin revealed that Bruno Heller is writing the pilot script for a Corlys Velaryon series, which had a working title of Nine Voyages, but is now being called The Sea Snake.

A Nymeria series about a legendary Dornish warrior-queen, titled Ten Thousand Ships, has its first few drafts from showrunner Amanda Segel ready to be worked on.

There is a third series based on the Dunk & Egg novellas, which is currently in its development stage with Steve Conrad. The first season will adapt The Hedge Knight, with A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms being considered its working title.

Having said a little too much already, the author refrained from speaking muck about the animated series, revealing only that the concept art is coming along well. With the working title The Golden Empire, the series will be set in Yi Ti.

And despite having his plate full with all these projects, the author once again reassured that he is still working on Winds of Winter.

The first of all these projects to get a new update will be House of the Dragon for HBO—a prequel that will have all eyes on it when it drops sometime later this year.
