Funimation Streams Irina: The Vampire Cosmonaut Anime Starting Sunday

Irina: The Vampire Cosmonaut is an upcoming fall anime series that has got me having tissues in one hand and crying emojis in the other.

The story follows a vampire girl named Irina Ruminescu, training for the first crewed mission to space. In reality, she is just a test subject being cruelly experimented upon before actual humans could go into outer space.

On Wednesday, Funimation announced through its official website that Keisuke Makino and Karei’s “Irina: The Vampire Cosmonaut” (Tsuki to Laika to Nosferatu) will stream on the platform from Sunday (October 3, 2021).

The news came as part of Funimation’s Fall 2021 lineup, which included several other titles such as Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Mugen Train, Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, and Ranking of Kings, among many others.

Additionally, Irina: The Vampire Cosmonaut anime’s official website also released a first episode’s synopsis, which reads:

‘Lev, who aims to become an astronaut, is ordered one day to conduct a top-secret mission to train a vampire girl named Irina to commence space missions with the vampire. Though people fear vampires, Lev goes to Irina’s cell to find out a surprising truth.’

The anime will follow the relationship of the two main protagonists as they bond and fight to break the chains which hold them.

Though I hope Irina won’t meet the same tragic fate as Laika; the real cosmonaut who inspired the story. Irina: The Vampire Cosmonaut anime is sure to have me on the edge of my seat, hoping for the best and preparing for the worst.

About Tsuki to Laika to Nosferatu

The Moon, Laika, and Nosferatu is a light novel series written by Keisuke Makino and Karei. It revolves around a space exploration race among the two superpowers.

10 years after a long war has come to an end, the world is divided into two superpowers: the Union of Zirnitra Republics in the east and the United Kingdom of Arnak in the west.

Instead of fighting any war, they decided to focus on a ‘space race’ to compete against each other.

The story follows Irina Ruminescu and Lev Leps, the two cosmonauts who dream of exploring space someday.
