Fruits Basket: Prelude’s New PV Teases Tohru’s Parents’ Sweet Love Story

Fruits Basket is one of those legendary romantic anime series everyone has heard of, so it’s natural for you to get the blues after the series aired its final season.

I’m here to tell you that the renowned anime will make a comeback with a shiny new movie, Fruits Basket -prelude- the compilation film.

Fruits Basket: Prelude, the upcoming film, will be released on February 18, 2022 in Japan. The movie is inspired by The Tale of Kyoko and Katsuya which is a prequel to the main story.

A new trailer has also been revealed which shows us the sweet love story of Tohru’s parents.

The trailer shows Kyoko, Tohru’s mother, who, surprisingly, used to be a delinquent. Katsuya, her teacher, fell in love with her.

So, I guess you understand why this part was never animated untill now, since the age difference can be considered problematic.

We can glimpse how Kyoko became the perfect and inspiring mother of Tohru after she fell in love with Katsuya. The movie smoothly joins the prequel to the main story.

Of course, just because it’s a new film doesn’t mean that it will offer a fully original plot. You will also find a summary of the anime’s first season included in the movie.

The trailer also previews the movie’s theme song “Niji to Kite” by Ohashi Trio. Since Funimation streams the anime, it might also license the movie.

Fruits Basket: Prelude will definitely rejuvenate your love for the anime. With this new film, not only are we getting a backstory of Tohru’s parents, but also some scenes that were not involved in the main anime.

I am looking forward to seeing how Katsuya earns Kyoko’s trust and transforms her into the loving mother that Tohru remembers.
