The Gang might not have achieved a lot in their lives but their show sure is making a mark in American television history. FXX’s comedy series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has been renewed for four more seasons. The fourteenth season ended in November last year and if the fifteenth season premieres sometime in 2021, the eighteenth season will continue till 2024!
The series revolves around a bunch of narcissistic and borderline sociopathic friends- Deandra, Charlie, Mac, Dennis, and Frank, who run an Irish bar in Philadelphia. Each friend in The Gang shows some trait of depravity, including alcoholism, drug abuse, blackmail, and even psychopathy.
They spend most of their days trying to trip one another by hatching elaborate schemes against each other. But at the end of the day, they reunite because of their unusual codependency.
When the show debuted in 2005, no one thought much of it. With a limited budget and even more limited publicity, Always Sunny was not a show that was destined for glory. However, the series gradually got rid of its underdog tag, thanks to a brilliant cast and some truly funny story arcs. It is now one of the best-rated comedies on tv.
With the fifteenth season, which was ordered earlier this year, Always Sunny outstripped the previous record holder of the longest-running comedy series The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet. It seems like the world cannot get enough of The Gang and fortunately for the fans, creator and star of the show Rob McElhenney has said that they are willing to do it forever if people keep watching. In fact, he also said that the original pitch for Always Sunny was quite long.
Always Sunny stars creators Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, and Kaitlin Olson, and Danny DeVito.
All seasons are available to stream on Hulu.
Do you watch It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia? Would you watch the 36th season if it continued for that long?
