How Filoni’s Filmmaking Career Resonates with Ahsoka’s Star Wars Journey

In a recent discussion, Dave Filoni drew parallels between Ahsoka’s transformation from a Padawan to a Jedi and his own journey as a filmmaker.

Ahsoka was first introduced in Filoni’s inaugural Star Wars project, The Clone Wars. As Ahsoka’s character evolved and matured in Rebels, and finally in the live-action series The Mandalorian, Filoni has also grown alongside her within the Star Wars universe.

The upcoming Ahsoka live-action series marks another milestone in their shared journey.

Following the debut of the Ahsoka trailer at the Star Wars Celebration, Screen Rant had a chat with Filoni. During the Lucasfilm Showcase panel, it was announced that he would be directing one of the three upcoming movies.

Filoni shared how his personal experiences resonate with Ahsoka’s journey. He also talked about the time he spent as George Lucas’ Padawan and the valuable “Jedi training” he received from him.

Check out the highlights of Filoni’s discussion about his and Ahsoka’s journey below.

It’s a very unique thing, her journey, because when I started out, the character was roughly 14 years old. I try not to actually nail down exact years and things; to keep things a bit open. But it’s a special experience to watch this character grow, and it, in a lot of ways, mirrors my own growth as a filmmaker and my ability to tell stories.

When I started, I had so much to learn. I still look back and can’t believe sometimes that George stuck it out with me. He must have thought, “This guy, he really has got a long way to go.” But he put in a lot of time and did a lot of Jedi training.

Dave Filoni

As an apprentice of George Lucas during The Clone Wars and in The Mandalorian, Filoni has become a significant voice in the Star Wars universe.

His influence continues to expand with his involvement as the showrunner of Ahsoka and the director of the New Republic era movie.

Similarly, Ahsoka has undergone a remarkable transformation, evolving from a stubborn Padawan in The Clone Wars to a powerful and insightful Jedi in The Mandalorian.

The growth of Filoni and Ahsoka together is almost like a beautiful poem, particularly when considering how their respective Star Wars narratives have been intertwined.

Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau

In the Star Wars universe, Ahsoka has emerged as a significant character with solid connections to the Skywalker family, the Rebellion, and the preservation of the Jedi following Order 66.

The upcoming Ahsoka series promises to showcase her growth, drawing on her experiences as a Jedi, a spy for the Rebellion, and a wise leader.

This presents a chance for Filoni to expand upon the storylines he initiated in Clone Wars and Rebels, delving deeper into the characters and their progressions.

Filoni has progressed significantly as a filmmaker, establishing animation as one of the most prominent aspects of Star Wars. He has also played a crucial role in bolstering The Mandalorian with Favreau.

The upcoming series will demonstrate his evolution as he elevates the characters to new heights.

It will be achieved by seamlessly weaving them into the storyline that Favreau and Filoni initiated with The Mandalorian.

Filoni’s voyage will culminate with the New Republic era movie. This will serve as a fitting end to his invaluable contribution to the universe, beginning with the Clone Wars movie that set the foundation for the series.
