Machio finally finds a companion on the farm in episode 2 of Farming Life in Another World titled “The First Villager.”

As he breezes through the winter, equipped with plenty of food reserves, shelter, and fire to keep him safe, our protagonist is missing only a friend to share it with. A whole pack of dogs, their partners, and a spider and its babies rest with him on the farm.

Upon encountering a little girl in the forest, he manages to incorporate her into his farm and finally finds someone to talk with daily and expand the farm together. However, she is not just any ordinary human.

Episode 3 Speculation

The vampire Lu is now part of the farm, and she will likely be the first of many as our protagonist is sure to find more people in his journey, expanding the farm and exploring the forest. The episode ends with them beginning to grow more medicinal crops which may prove a plot point for future battles or diseases.

It is also likely we will find more people that Machio introduces to the farm next episode, as it is still hinted by the opening that our cast is much larger than two. The current pace of the anime is in a character introductory phase.

Recap of Episode 2

The episode begins with God observing Machio, seeing how he is faring in his new life. The forest he was put into was the Wicked Forest of Death, but he remains happily farming.

Among tomatoes, the crops of potatoes, cabbage, and beans have also begun growing as he discovers new aspects of his powers. He can choose whatever crop he wants to develop just by his will.

His lunch is a rabbit stew that is very quickly made using simple ingredients from the farm, and his dogs also enjoy the food. He plants some fruit trees and hopes they grow into a proper orchard.

The dogs help him explore the forest, and he finds a river stream to secure a valuable water source for his farm. He clears out even more land and expands his farm to accommodate more crops.

The horns on the dogs begin growing bigger and bigger as he finds the snow slowly creeping in, as he wonders what he will do in the cold winters as a giant spider comes and weaves him a large napkin.

The spider lives on the tree, accept a trade offer for potatoes, and makes a jacket for the winter. His food reserves are also enough to last, and he waits out the winter in the cold and begins to feel a bit lonely.

As spring approaches, all the puppies go out into the forest to start their own lives but return a few days later with their partners. The spider also has hatched a lot of baby spiders. Something is coming his way, and he encounters a little girl in the forest.

He goes to give her his jacket, but she bites him, grows bigger in form and size, and is immediately attacked by all the dogs and goes back to a small form yet again. She can suck people’s blood and grow in the cast of its energy.

He lets her take some blood with consent as she grows back into a healthy form. He takes her to the farm and shows her around. She eats one of the tomatoes and is entirely shaken by the sheer amount of crops he’s grown.

Lu Lulucy, the vampire, was on the run from some nobles as she encountered the farm and exchanged information about the world with Machio, who asked her to stay with him forever.

She is hesitant at first, but he is adamant about her and explains his reasoning as well as his loneliness, and she finally gives in, and they begin expanding the farm together.

About Farming Life in Another World

Farming Life in Another World is an isekai manga by Kinosuke Naito. It was first launched in 2016 and will receive an anime in 2023.

The manga focuses on Kiraku, a middle-aged man who dies of overwork. A deity takes pity on him and transports him into another world with a younger and healthy body with additional powers.

Hiraku chooses to have a peaceful life farming and tending to his land. He eventually makes friends and even a tiny village on his farming journey.
