After being announced over six months ago, the official website of the Love Live! Sunshine!! fantasy spin-off anime series Genjutsu no Yohane -SUNSHINE in the MIRROR- has revealed that the series will premiere in July 2023.
The announcement was accompanied by the release of a new teaser trailer and key visual for the series.
The teaser reveals that the anime will air on the channels Tokyo TV and BS11.
The series reimagines the eccentric teenage school idol Yoshiko Tsushima as a fortune-teller afflicted with ‘chūnibyō’ or adolescent delusions of grandeur. The series is set in Numazu, a scenic harbor town surrounded by the sea and mountains.
From a young age, Yohane had never fit in and felt disconnected from those around her. Her aspirations and desires differed from those in her town and she felt as though she belonged elsewhere.
The story takes its audience on a journey with this girl who can’t follow rules and marches to the beat of her own drum as she attempts to navigate the world she lives in.
The original staff members of the Love Live! Sunshine!! idol project return for Genjutsu no Yohane -SUNSHINE in the MIRROR- with Asami Nakatani serving as the director at Sunrise. Toshiya Ono is writing the scripts as the series composer, and Yumiko Yamamoto is the character designer. Tatsuya Kato will return as the music composer.
The returning cast for this series includes Aika Kobayashi in the role of the protagonist Yohane, Kanako Takatsuki as Hanamaru, Arisa Komiya as Dia, Ai Furihata as Ruby, Anju Inami as Chika, Shuka Saito as Yo, Nanaka Suwa as Kanan, and Rikaka Aida as Riko.
Genjutsu no Yohane -SUNSHINE in the MIRROR- started out as an illustration series in the Love Live! Days Love Live! Sogo magazine. It has previously inspired a short manga in the same magazine back in February.

Genjitsu no Yohane: Sunshine in the Mirror is a spin-off from the Love Live! Sunshine!! series. The series is produced by Bandai Namco Filmworks, directed by Asami Nakatani, and written by Toshiya Ono, with Yumiko Yamamoto designing the characters.
With the chuunibyou Yoshiko Tsushima as the protagonist, the story reimagines the members of Aqours in the fictional land of Numazu. Yoshiko is a fortune teller named Yohane who goes on an adventure to find a place she truly belongs to.
