Fantastic Beasts 3 Gets Official Title And Moves Up Its Release Date

Warner Bros. has announced the official title for Fantastic Beasts 3 and it is called ‘The Secrets of Dumbledore.’

The announcement also included that it’ll be coming to theaters much sooner than expected as it moves up three months from its previous July 15 date.

The third installment in the Harry Potter spin-off series is now set for a theatrical release on April 15 next year. With its 2021 slate debuting in theaters and HBO Max at the same time, the studio wants to have its bigger films to get exclusive theatrical releases in 2022.

The official logline for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore reads,

Professor Albus Dumbledore knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore Official Logline

The cast members returning include Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, Jude Law as Albus Dumbledore, Ezra Miller as Credence/Aurelius Dumbledore, Callum Turner as Theseus Scamander, Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski, Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein, and Katherine Waterston as Tina Goldstein.

Johnny Depp, however, will not be returning to portray the role of Gellert Grindelwald and will be replaced by Mads Mikkelsen.

If this change was made under any other circumstances, Mikkelsen would be considered the best replacement. However, the fact that WB still has Amber Heard on board for Aquaman 2 but fired Depp from Fantastic Beasts upset a lot of fans.

A majority of comments on the Instagram post talked about Depp. There were other hilarious comments that pondered whether the film would focus on Dumbledore’s relationship with Grindelwald. Some of these tweets were hidden by the official account.

Fantastic Beasts will supposedly be a 5-part film series. J. K. Rowling is credited as co-writer, along with Steve Kloves. With the third one also helmed by director David Yates, who confirmed that each film will take place in a different city.

The first one was set in New York City, while The Crimes of Grindelwald explored Paris. The third film is set in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Surely there are some creatures in the Amazons that Newt wants to make friends with.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore will open in theaters on April 15, 2022.
