A recently released image from Joker: Folie à Deux reveals Lady Gaga’s character, Harley Quinn, standing at the famous ‘Joker Stairs,’ which has become an iconic location from the first movie.
Director Todd Phillips is expanding the Joker universe, with the highly successful 2019 original paving the way for this sequel.
Joaquin Phoenix is set to reprise his role as the infamous Arthur Fleck, also known as the Joker, but this time he will be joined by Harley Quinn, played by the singing sensation Lady Gaga.
Lady Gaga recently appeared on the Joker: Folie à Deux set, which caught the eye of many fans.
According to Discussing Film, the singer-turned-actress was caught filming a scene on the same iconic staircase where Joaquin Phoenix’s character, Arthur Fleck, performed his memorable dance in the first Joker movie.
The Joker Stairs, featured in the first Joker film, serve as a symbolic representation of Arthur’s transformation into the Joker. Through his dance on the stairs, it appears as though he is shedding his former self and assuming a more confident and empowered persona.
There is no official confirmation, but it seems probable that Lady Gaga’s portrayal of Harley Quinn will incorporate some elements of this iconic dance sequence.
Margot Robbie portrayed Harley Quinn in the DCEU, but Lady Gaga’s version will be different. The story takes place before Bruce Wayne becomes Batman and showcases Harley’s early involvement with the Joker.
The title of the upcoming musical, Joker: Folie à Deux, means “madness shared by two,” which suggests that the story will heavily focus on Harley and Joker’s dynamic.
Reports indicate that the narrative will be primarily from Harley’s viewpoint, which makes it even more intriguing.
Based on what we see when Harley Quinn shows up at the protests to free Joker, it seems likely that she has become a fan of Joker and might be his therapist in the upcoming movie.
The dance she performs could be seen as a disturbing tribute to his alter-ego, especially considering that he goes on to murder Murray Franklin immediately.
This kind of blind idolization is a key theme in the upcoming Joker 2 film.
As of now, it is not yet known whether the upcoming movie Joker: Folie à Deux will portray Harley as the Joker’s therapist, which is how it is in the original comics.
Some people have speculated that both Harley and the Joker are patients of Arkham Asylum. The recent mugshot image of Lady Gaga as Harley supports this idea.
In addition, photos and videos from the movie set have provided a good look at her costume, which appears to be designed to resemble Phoenix’s Joker outfit.
