Explained: Everything That Happened in Billions S6 Episode 5

Billions S6 returned with episode 6 this week, which wasn’t exactly exciting or fast-paced but nonetheless kept the ball rolling.

Prince is still trying real hard to get the Olympics to New York, while Chuck finds a new capitalist company to poach. But they both face a few roadblocks in these endeavors.

In Billions S6 Ep 6, Prince smoothens things over with Gov Sweeney by promising to name the Olympic stadium after him. Chuck, on the other hand, loses his court case against an exploitive company but wins over a new lawyer to his DA team.

There are a few other storylines surrounding Taylor, Wendy and Chuck Sr, so let’s get into recapping it all:

How Prince Remedies the Gov Sweeney Situation

Prince is not giving up on his Olympic bid anytime soon. So, when his daughter Gail insults Governor Bob Sweeney and accuses him on laying waste to the city by bringing the games in, he must act fast to remedy the situation.

Gail

The simplest solution would be to get Gail to apologize. But Gail retorts back saying it was Prince who had taught his daughters to always speak their minds. Besides, why does Gov Sweeney even care about what a kid like Gail has to say? How fragile is his ego?

Listening to these words aloud gave Prince an idea: to win Sweeney over, he needs to play to his ego.

So, Prince takes Sweeney to the location where the new Olympic stadium will be built and reveals that it will be named after Sweeney. That brought the governor back on board — Crisis averted!

Chuck Recruits a New Lawyer

One of Chuck’s major storylines for the episode was him going on yet another crusade against a seafood company that labelled its packaging wrong and still sold the products.

His biggest folly is miscalculating just how good he could be in court, when he hasn’t actually practiced law in a really long time.

All his accusations come undone really quickly, thanks to Daevisha “Dave” Mahar who defends the accused party.

After losing the case, instead of returning with his tail in between his legs, Chuck tries to recruit Dave into the DA’s office. She initially refuses, but I guess the challenge of taking down billionaires can make anyone reconsider the offer.

(Plus, he needs someone to fill the Kate-sized hole in his team).

What’s Happening at Prince Cap

Besides bringing Kate on board, Prince also hires the much in-demand Philip, Scooter’s nephew. Scooter does not like this one bit since he thinks Philip is destined for greater things. Let’s see how this plays out.

Prince’s strict policies on success margins causes one employee in particular, Bobbie, to quit angrily. Related or not, Prince later rewards all his employees with Air Jordans for their hard work.

Other Minor Plotlines

  • We finally see a little bit of scheming from Taylor, who invests in a vegan company, only to sell it for a calculated profit that could cross into the illegal side of things. Despite admonitions from Spyros, Scooter, Rian and Wendy, she remains keen on his quest. She finally pulls it off with Kate’s help.
  • Chuck Sr receives heat from his wife after she discovers him sending flirty texts to other women and so, appears on his son’s doorstep. Chuck Jr requests Wendy to convince his father to go back home.
  • Wendy, on the other hand, is trying really hard to not be “transactional” as advised by a Buddhist monk. What this means is, she has to stop doing things that involve giving or receiving payments in cash or kind. But she finds it harder to stay true to this new resolution.

Right now, Chuck’s storyline seems a little aimless but with new character Dave on his side, we might finally see some of the big plans he has, including those for Prince. Billions S6 Episode 6 will air on February 27.
