Evil Dead Rise: The Best Times to Take A Mid-Movie Bathroom Break

The fifth instalment of the Evil Dead film series, Evil Dead Rise, released in theatres on April 21, 2023; and it has already received positive reviews from critics.

Written and directed by Lee Cronin, the movie circles around two estranged sisters trying to survive and protect their family from demonic creatures. Ellie, played by Alyssa Sutherland, is a single mom of three children and Beth, played by Lily Sullivan, is her sister who works in the music industry.

The film has been praised for its gore and sadism and it definitely won’t disappoint if you’re looking forward to an absolutely horrifying and shocking experience.

Evil Dead Rise has a run-time of slightly more than an hour and a half, so it’s quite manageable to watch it without ever having to leave your seat.

However, a majority of the scenes are action-packed and extremely brutal to watch, meaning there isn’t much importance given to an actual story. So, if you’re someone who can’t handle too much horror, I’d suggest you take a bathroom break anyway for your own good.

In case it wasn’t already obvious from the trailer, Ellie is the first one to be possessed and her goal in the movie is to get everyone else in her family to join her. To avoid giving away any major spoilers, I will only be referencing this part of the plot from now on.

Here are some scenes during which you could take a bathroom break.

1. Ellie slaughters her neighbours

Beth and the kids attempt to flee once they realise Ellie is possessed. But they’re only able to make it to the hallway before Ellie starts chasing them. This leads to the neighbours finding out about Ellie’s demonic state as well.

Ellie then goes on a rampage and starts killing everyone in her path, while Beth and the kids take the opportunity to go back inside their apartment and barricade the door.

The neighbours don’t actually have anything to do with the plot; the scene has only been added to show what Ellie is now capable of, thus building up to the climax later on.

2. Ellie tries to get back into the apartment

After Ellie is done with her killing spree, she walks back to the apartment and tries to talk Kassie, her youngest child, into letting her back inside.

A creepy interaction takes place between the two characters through the door’s peephole and Ellie eventually manipulates Kassie into letting her back inside. We already got a glimpse of how this scene plays out in the trailer, so there isn’t anything “new” that you’d be missing.

The only reason you might want to stay back to watch it is because most people who’ve seen the movie agree that it’s one of the most disturbing scenes and that it’s a real treat for horror movie fanatics.

3. Corridor of corpses

After a few back-to-back incidents in the apartment and only two of the four previously non-possessed characters are left alive, they try to flee again.

The two survivors find out about an unoccupied apartment that has a possible way out of the building through the fire escape. However, as they make their way down the hallway, they encounter several dead bodies of the neighbours Ellie had previously killed.

Ellie quickly manages to catch up to the pair, and they’re forced to defend themselves yet another time. The scene ends with a shocking revelation about the corpses scattered all over the floor, so if you’re choosing to get up during this scene, make sure you’re back soon.

4. Elevator of blood

In case you missed your chance in the previous scene, the one that follows will give you another opportunity to take a bathroom break.

The two survivors decide to take the elevator instead, after their plan to use the fire escape doesn’t work out as planned. They make a narrow escape and one of them presses the button for the garage on the lower level.

The button unfortunately triggers the elevator to start filling up with blood in what is possibly the most gruesome scene of the entire movie. The elevator then plummets to the ground before exploding and spreading lots and lots of blood everywhere.

This scene takes place right before the climax of the film so it’d be best to remain seated from now till the end.
