Will Kate Kane Return For Batwoman S3? Here’s What We Know So Far

Batwoman is back with her batarangs. The CW’s Arrowverse series was left in disarray when its first season concluded with the departure of actor Ruby Rose, who portrayed Kate Kane. Rose left due to injuries that she had sustained on-set. But with Javicia Leslie’s Ryan Wilder, the show introduced TV’s first black Batwoman, reviving the show and announcing that they’re here to stay.

This was a brave and risky move as it was the first time in The CW’s DC TV universe history, where a titular character got replaced after the first season. Kate Kane isn’t entirely gone, as Wallis Day has taken over the role. The focus simply shifted on a new Batwoman, with Ryan as Gotham City’s Caped Crusader.

Season 2 had shorter episode order due to COVID-19 related delays. Some sacrifices were made, as the Arrowverse was going to have a Batwoman and Superman & Lois crossover but was canceled due to COVID-19 risks.

Now that Batwoman Season 2 finale has ended with a bang, here’s everything you need to know about Season 3:

1. Release Date

Writers Room Twitter for CW’s Batwoman announced a few days ago that Batwoman Season 3 is set to release on October 13, 2021, at 9 pm ET on The CW.

Although the show being renewed for Season 3 was announced back in February when The CW greenlit 12 shows for its 2021-2022 season.

The show gets a Wednesday timeslot as The CW is shifting timings around a bit. The first two seasons were aired on Sundays, but Batwoman season 3 will premiere on a Wednesday, slated right after the Legends of Tomorrow season 7 premiere episode.

2. Trailers, Teasers & Poster

As Batwoman season 2 finished airing just yesterday, it’s highly unlikely that The CW will release any trailers for Season 3 just yet.

Though it’s not very far away, with its return scheduled for October, the teasers might start arriving a month prior to that, around September.

3. Cast

Javicia Leslie will return to portray Ryan Wilder, aka, Batwoman. Other current cast members include Camrus Johnson (Luke Fox/Batwing), Nicole Kang (Mary Hamilton), Rachel Skarsten (Elizabeth Kane/Alice), and Meagan Tandy (Sophie Moore).

As reported by EW, Dougray Scott’s Jacob Kane will not be returning for the upcoming season. Wallis Day, who replaced Ruby Rose as Kate Kane, might or might not return, but fans have expressed that they’d like to see her in the new season. New cast members will probably be announced along with plot details or as the show decides to add more characters.

4. Plot Details

The city of Gotham was left without a Batwoman in Season 2 when Kate’s disappeared. This was until Ryan Wilder donned the Batsuit that she found in an airplane wreck and became the new Batwoman. This season involved the city’s newfound drug problem facilitated by the False Face Society and introduced the villains, Black Mask and Safiyah.

With the Black Mask story reaching its conclusion in season 2, the plot for Season 3 is still unknown. However, we can expect Ryan’s evolution as Batwoman, Kate Kane’s return, and Luke Fox’s transformation into Batwing. The creator and showrunner Caroline Dries also revealed that the upcoming season will also explore Batwing’s origins.

It seems that Season 3 will have multiple villains. As Season 2 finale ended with Batman trophies like Poison Ivy’s vines, Penguin’s umbrella, and Mad Hatter’s hat being released to the public. Another direction the story could explore is about Ryan’s mother as Alice revealed that she never died during childbirth.

Batwoman Season 2 is now available on The CW.
