What do we know about Pokémon Scarlet and Violet so far? Will it get an anime?

Pokémon Day had the fandom reeling with excitement after the franchise announced its entry into the 9th generation with the reveal of mainline games, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

With both games set to hit Nintendo Switches in late 2022 and Pokémon Legends: Arceus already being available to play, fans were beyond ecstatic to have three new additions to the RPG series within a single year.

Now that we have a confirmed release window and an official trailer, let’s deep dive into what we know about the games so far, what to expect from it, and whether we’ll get an anime down the line.

The trailer posted on the game’s official website opens with a quirky reality to virtual world transition via a mysterious room littered with hints about the game.

As we dive into its picturesque world, we’re met with a mix of environments ranging from beautifully detailed towns to various natural landscapes like sprawling plains and marshlands, calm beaches, and barren deserts.

The game will feature an entirely new and unique region based on subtle clues sprinkled throughout the trailer.

With the obscured maps found in the mystery room and the characters’ home, we can deduce that that setting is an unknown Spain-inspired region, specifically the Iberian Peninsula.

While it’s great that the new region will be incorporating a new culture, fans are keeping their fingers crossed on the possibility of exploring the France-based region of Kalos since the country shares borders with Spain.

But with its coastal habitat, there’s also the hope of crossing the seas to reach the UK-theme region of Galar, seeing that Pokémon Gold, Silver, Crystal, Heart Gold, and SoulSilver accessed both the regions of Kanto and Johto via the same route.

We’re also introduced to the stars of the show – the 9th generation starter Pokémon. We have three adorable critters, starting with our moody and attention-loving fuzzy kitten Sprigatito, followed by our chillaxed croc Fuecoco, and lastly, our tidy duckling Quaxly.

Hisuian Zoroark | Source: Fandom

While the trailer sports a ton of Pokémon, including a Hisuian Zoroark from Legends, catch ’em all gamers will be disappointed to know that it’s highly likely not all 910 Pokémon species will be present.

Even though the game is synced to Pokémon HOME, The Pokémon Company has clarified that gamers shouldn’t keep their expectations up as only the mons featured in the game can be accessed on the database.

Lastly, the new protagonists’ designs also incurred the fans’ disappointment, as even though their outfits would switch hues depending on the version of the games, the lack of a vibrant color palette and personalization was off-putting and a step down from the game’s predecessors.

3 Reasons Why Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is Special

1. Open-world game:

Unlike Arceus, Scarlet and Violet’s website outright confirms that the game will be open-world.

…..the Pokémon series takes a new evolutionary step, allowing you to explore freely in a richly expressed open world.

…..now in an open-world game that players of any age can enjoy.

This is a huge deal for gamers, as they’ll be able to access all of the game’s areas and can freely explore them without the hassle of a loading screen.

2. Battles to capture Pokémon:

The game is no longer restricted to trainer vs. trainer battles. The website confirms that gamers will relive the nostalgia of catching wild Pokémons by pitting their existing set against them.

You’ll be able to experience the true joy of the Pokémon series—battling against wild Pokémon in order to catch them…

3. Possibility of multiple endings:

Although I could be looking too much into it, the website’s description of the games could hint at there being two separate routes and endings for each version.

As one of the main characters, you’ll set off on your adventure.

Who knows what kind of story awaits you?

Will Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have an anime?

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will likely follow in the footsteps of Pokémon Legends: Arceus and have an anime adaptation in the future.

Hardly a month after its release, Pokémon Legends is set to have a series by the end of this year. So based on its release and announcement dates, we can gauge a similar window for Scarlet and Violet.

Since Arceus was released this year on the 28th of January, and its adaptation is set to debut in fall 2022, it gives us a rough gap of 8 months after Scarlet and Violet hits Nintendo Switches later this year.
