Disney’s animated movie Raya and the Last Dragon features a talented voice cast, and it comprises a lot of actors from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Marvel Studios has worked with some of Hollywood’s greatest actors with 23 published movies and another 25 MCU films and shows in progress. These movies and shows have cast so many people that it is becoming quite rare that a major Hollywood release doesn’t include at least a few people from the MCU.
MCU actors’ use is prevalent within other Disney movies, as the “Disney Family” routinely tries to function with the same people. This can be observed with Disney Animation’s fantasy film Raya and the Last Dragon. The movie features Kelly Marie Tran in the groundbreaking film for Disney since it will be the first of their animated films to cast a Southeast Asian lead.
Kelly Marie Tran is fresh off her characters like Rose Tico in Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. She’ll voice Raya (a skilled warrior who goes on a search for the last dragon to save the world).
But Tran isn’t the only high-profile actor related to the film. During a recent press conference, the movie creators, including directors Don Hall and Carlos Lopez Estrada, producer Osnat Shurer, and writers Adele Lim and Qui Nguyen, disclosed the actors who will be featuring in Raya and the Last Dragon.
It turns out, several of the cast have had crucial ties to Disney’s subsidiary Marvel Entertainment and its all-encompassing cinematic universe.
Awkwafina as Sisu
Awkwafina is yet to make her MCU debut, but she has a vital role in Marvel’s future and Raya the Last Dragon. She’s voicing Sisu, the supposed “last dragon” in Disney’s animated movie (who isn’t precisely what Raya expects to find). Awkwafina is scheduled to appear in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings later. Marvel officially stated that her character’s name is Katy, though there is speculation that Awkwafina will be disclosed to be a more extensive character from the comics.
Gemma Chan as Namaari
Gemma Chan is set to portray the central villain of Raya and the Last Dragon, Namaari. Chan formerly played Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel (the Kree warrior who died during aerial combat). Nevertheless, Marvel later cast Chan in a newer and more significant role. She’ll play the leading role in Eternals, named Sersi, an influential member of the enhanced race that enjoys living inconspicuously on Earth.
Benedict Wong as Tong
Benedict Wong is the MCU veteran among Raya and the Last Dragon‘s cast. He’ll play Tong in the animated film and draw some muscle to Raya‘s heroic crew. He entered the MCU in 2016’s Doctor Strange, which commemorated his first appearance as Wong, a Master of the Mystic Arts. Benedict Wong has since returned once in Avengers: Infinity War and once in Avengers: Endgame, and he’ll emerge again in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
About Raya And The Last Dragon
Long ago, in the world of Kumandra, humans and dragons lived together in harmony. But when the sinister monsters, the Druun, threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now, 500 years later, the same monsters have returned and it’s up to a lone warrior, Raya, and her pet pill bug companion Tuk Tuk, to track down the last dragon and finally end the Druun reign for good. However, on her journey, she’ll learn that it’ll take more than dragon magic to save the world—it’s going to take trust as well.
Raya and the Last Dragon is Disney’s upcoming American computer-animated action-adventure fantasy film. Produced by the 59th film, the movie has been directed by Don Hall and Carlos López Estrada, along with Paul Briggs and John Ripa.
