Elden Ring’s PC Specs Are so Beefy They Might Give You a Headache

Even though the minimum specs for Elden Ring were yanked down within a few hours of appearing on Steam, they didn’t escape anyone’s attention as nothing ever gets deleted from the internet.

Consequently, despite FromSoftware’s best efforts, the listing was being circulated everywhere around the internet and probably gave a heart attack to a gamer or two.

Why you may ask?

Despite being labeled as “minimum,” the spotted specifications listing was beefy, to say the least. Given that FromSoftware is known to not push rigs to their limit, it was shocking to see Elden Ring putting most systems through the mill by demanding 12GB of minimum RAM.

This bizarre move by the devs gave birth to a particular theory that postulated that the list got mixed up, and the recommended specs accidentally got published as the minimum ones. The fact that FromSoftware quickly took down the requirements as soon as they got up on Steam further backed this claim.

But as it turns out, this wasn’t the case at all.

On 15 Feb, Bandai Namco officially unveiled Elden Ring’s full system specs on the game’s Twitter page. This announcement confirmed that the strange requirement for 12GB RAM was accurate and broke the hearts of those who own older PCs.

Players will need at least 12GB of RAM to boot up this open-world sandbox, alongside an Nvidia GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 580.

Recommended specs are steeper as they need about 16GB of RAM and a robust Nvidia GTX 1070 or AMD Radeon Vega 56 GPU to run Elden Ring at its peak.

Minimum Specs Recommended Specs
OS Windows 10 Windows 10 | Windows 11
Processor Intel Core i5-8400 | AMD Ryzen 3 3300X Intel Core i7-8700K | AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
Memory 12 GB 16GB
Graphics Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060, 3GB | AMD Radeon RX 580, 4GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070, 8GB | AMD Radeon RX Vega 56, 8GB
DirectX DirectX 12 (Feature Level 12.0) DirectX 12 (Feature Level 12.0)
Storage 60 GB 60 GB

Other than the RAM-hungry factor of Elden Ring, many PC gamers are also stressing over the minimum GPU requirement. While a GTX 1060 is by no means a high-end graphic card, many PC users, as revealed by Steam’s hardware survey, are owners of a worse GPU.

If you own a card that’s nearly not as good as a GTX 1060, your playing experience might be severely hampered, but it does not mean you cannot dive into the realms of the Lands Between.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said if you are unable to meet the RAM requirement. So, at the risk of repeating myself, you need 12GB of minimum RAM to play Elden Ring, or you’ll have to kiss an immersive gameplay goodbye.

Elden Ring is slated to hit the shelves on February 25 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
