Season 4 really proved to be a ride downhill for Beto—it started off with him trying to convince Cristal to betray their father and put him in prison which would hopefully give Beto possession of the Flores cartel. But since Cristal didn’t want to take sides, she declined to help Beto.
He still managed to get his father jailed, but as Beto’s tragic fate would have it, his imprisoned father gave Cristal the ownership of the cartel, instead of him. (Even when he wins, he loses).
Beto felt deep resentment towards Cristal because of this situation. So much so that now, in Season 5, he ends up kidnapping Cristal and replacing her with a lookalike named Rita. But what exactly is his endgame?
It seems like Beto does not intend to kill Cristal. Instead, he wants to use her doppelganger, Rita, to gain intel about the Carringtons and the Flores cartel. It is possible that Rita as Cristal will orchestrate handing over the cartel’s ownership to Beto.
So I don’t think Beto will hurt Cristal but there is a chance that things may not end up going according to his plan, causing him to make some rash decisions. Let’s see how this will play out.
Beto Won’t Kill Cristal… Yet
Beto is incredibly insecure and hates the fact that his father left the Flores cartel to Cristal, despite believing she was the cause of him being in jail.
Beto is also incredibly obsessed with having full possession of this cartel and seems willing to do whatever it takes to get the throne, as it were.
We feared for Cristal’s life when he showed up with a gun to the gala in the Season 4 finale. But upon seeing Eva shoot Fallon, he fled for the fear of being framed. This also threw him off the plan of hurting/killing Cristal.
It ultimately turned out to be a good thing because he immediately found another solution: he met Rita, a southern belle who looked like a carbon copy of Cristal.
Now, in Season 5 Episode 3, he kidnaps Cristal and replaces her with Rita, who he has trained to imitate Cristal.
While Blake notices that Rita hasn’t worn her ring, she makes up an excuse for it while she digs up information for Beto, like the deal the Carringtons have with the governor.
As for what plans Beto has next, I’m pretty sure he’s going to try getting as much intel as he can, then have Rita convince Blake that she (as Cristal) changed her mind about the cartel and hand over ownership to Beto.
Will Beto go to the extent of hurting Cristal or even killing her? I’d say she’s more valuable to him alive than dead, but there’s no telling. If things go sideways he might make decisions that lead to Cristal’s death—decisions that he will regret.
