DC League of Super-Pets has released first-look images of its main characters, with a note of actors attached to their respective super-pet.
As we already know, Dwayne Johnson will be voicing Krypto, Superman’s Superdog from the planet Krypton. Krypto’s own origin story is that he was toddler Kal-El’s pet while they were both living on their home planet.
When it was decided that Kal-El would be sent to Earth, Krypto was sent before him as a test subject. But due to some mishaps, his spacecraft arrived after Kal-El’s.
Krypto’s counterpart in the movie will be Ace, a “dog from the streets” voiced by Kevin Hart. Despite not having a grand super-hero origin like Krypto in the comic books, Ace would go on to be known as Bat-Hound. But right now, as a shelter pet, he will teach Krypto what it’s like to be a “normal” dog.
The second image reveals Natasha Lyonne as Merton the turtle, Vanessa Bayer as PB the pig, and Diego Luna as Chip the squirrel. Although Lex Luther has not been pictured, it is confirmed that Marc Maron will be voicing the role.
Characters for Kate McKinnon, John Krasinski, Michael Douglas, Jameela Jamil, Keanu Reeves remain undisclosed.
Krypto and Ace have a Tom and Jerry kind of relationship. But the two will have to come together with the rest of the gang to tackle a problem that “uniquely can only be solved by a group of pets,” director Jared Stern puts it.
Stern’s main aim is to have his audience understand that animation is only a method of storytelling and not a genre in itself. DC League of Super-Pets will be as fantastic as any other superhero movie.
Besides the first-look images, the film has also released a tiny teaser for the movie. Activating his Superdog cape, Krypto ushers in a logo that says “League of Superpet.”
As expected, Kevin Hart’s Ace won’t leave Krypto in peace, adding an “s” to make the logo “Superpets” — Ace isn’t wrong when he says that a league isn’t made one member.
A tiny scene follows through, showing off Krypto and Ace’s silly dynamics but I’ll let you watch that yourself.
The official full-length trailer is on the horizon too. As teased, it will be released sometime this November!
