Dai and Popp lost all hopes for the surface world in episode 94 of Dragon Quest, titled “The Greatest, Final Comeback.”
King Vearn completely dominated the episode. Even after getting his one-arm cut, he still managed to do more damage to Dai than any other villain. It was a shock for Popp to see someone like Dai lose all hope of winning.
Dai managed to stop Vearn from using the Demonic Guard of Heaven and Hell. However, none of that matter now that Vearn has unleashed the black core that will destroy everything in just a few minutes.

Episode 95 Speculations
Popp will rise up again in episode 95 of Dragon Quest, titled “Like a Bright Flash.”
Even though Dai has given up, Popp refuses to give up just yet and will be back on his feet in the next episode. The preview tells up that there is someone whose voice will help him get up again.
I am excited to see how Popp will stop the pillar from blowing. We still don’t know who is behind the voice Popp heard. Let’s wait and see.

Episode 94 Recap
Popp used Sigma’s Mirror of Shahal, which Sigma gave Popp after he defeated him. With this, Dai got the chance to unleash his final attack on Vearn. Vearn isn’t able to move but slowly starts to get in position.
Dai fires Avan Stash at him, but Vearn is now ready to move. However, before Vearn can do anything, Dai attacks him with Strash Cross, cutting off his arm. Now, Vearn can’t use his ultimate attack anymore.
Without wasting any time, Dai stabs Vearn with his sword and begins attacking him with Zapple. He is ready to sacrifice himself, taking Vearn with himself. Popp knows that this is the only way with which they can defeat Vearn. He just hopes that Dai doesn’t die before Vearn.
He continues to attack Vearn with the attack. Vearn stops resisting after a point. He tells Dai the things he is doing for his friends and everyone is futile. The Vearn Palace has lost its Dark Force Reactor, but there is still one area that is under Vearn’s control.
That place is the heart. The ultimate weapon of the Vearn Palace is hidden, the Pillar of Vearn. He reminds Dai that he has dropped five such pillars on the surface world, and now only one remains.
If this one falls, the whole surface world will be destroyed. He drops the remaining pillar. He has dropped all the other pillars so that they make a hexagon, covering the entire surface. Inside the pillar is the black core, the thing that killed Dai’s father.
He tells Dai that this is the last day for the surface world, and it will be a new dawn for the underworld. Vearn tells Dai that he has set the timer and there is no way he can destroy all the pillars alone.
Vearn reminds Dai that Dai’s real motive has always been to protect the surface world and not kill Vearn. Dai falls down, and Popp is shocked at Dai’s face. The face that tells they have lost all hope.
About Dragon Quest: Dai no Daiboken (2020)
Dragon Quest is an anime and manga series based on the rpg video game of the same name.
The story features Dai, a boy living in the Dermline Islands and his quest of becoming a hero and realizing his powers and helping Princess Leona along the way.
The games were adapted into two major television series. Dragon Quest: The Adventures of Dai is the remake of the 1991 series which had 46 episodes in total.
