The first two episodes of The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey are out and it immediately sets up an irresistible murder for all of us to solve. Samuel L. Jackson stars as a 93-year-old dementia patient who just finds out that his caretaker and great-nephew, Reggie, has been murdered.
So besides Reggie, does any other character die?
As of now, Reggie (Ptolemy’s nephew) is the only character who dies in The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey. It is speculated that Ptolemy himself may die by the end of the show.
Reggie’s death occurs in Episode 1 itself under mysterious circumstances. Ptolemy takes this news really badly since Reggie was one of the few people who cared about him. So, he vows to find out just exactly what led to his nephew’s demise.
How does Reggie die?
Reggie’s death is the mystery upon which The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey hinges. When Ptolemy is taken to see Reggie during his wake, we find out that the cause of his death is a gunshot to the face.
No family member has any idea how it happened and the police, too, have dismissed the case. Still, Ptolemy himself cannot let go of his nephew without doing him justice and finding out who killed him and why.
Through some investigation, he finds out the neighborhood in which Reggie was gunned down. A homeless woman who witnessed the same also told him that the meeting seemed pre-arranged and that the killer had quite a distinguishable scar on his face.
But because of his dementia, what Ptolemy doesn’t remember (yet) is that Reggie had disclosed how his wife’s ex-boyfriend was causing trouble.
It is possible that once Ptolemy takes more doses of his experimental medicine, he will remember more details from this conversation that may help him solve the mystery of Reggie’s death.
Will Ptolemy die?
The fact that the show is called “The Lasts Days” of Ptolemy Grey, seems to indicate Grey’s imminent death. Could the title be alluding to the fact that Ptolemy may die at the end of the show? There sure is a possibility.
The show starts off in the future with a cognitive Ptolemy clocking a gun in his locked apartment preparing to deal with some assailants. It gives us a feeling that it might end badly. If Ptolemy is to die, this could be one of the ways.
The other possible cause for Ptolemy’s death could be the experimental medicine that he is using to regain his memories. Although the drug reverses the effects of his dementia, it does make him physically unhealthy and may speed up his death.
It is entirely possible that Ptolemy survives, along with achieving the one goal he currently has: finding out who killed Reggie. I guess we’ll only know when the show’s swansong episode comes through.
