Does Reggie die in The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey?

The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey is Apple TV’s new original series. The mystery show follows Samuel L. Jackson playing Ptolemy, a senile man with dementia. Reggie Llyod is Ptolemy Grey’s great-nephew and his only caretaker.

In Episode 1 itself, Reggie is murdered under mysterious circumstances, and Ptolemy finds out that the killer is a man with a scar on his face. He then vows to unearth the truth about Reggie’s death.

The show’s driving force is Ptolemy’s whole investigative journey and how he seeks to uncover the circumstances of Reggie’s death. So, don’t expect to find all the answers right away. To get started on theories, here are some details we’re privy to:

Everything We Know about Reggie’s Death

Reggie’s the sweetest great-nephew you’ll see on screen. Frequently visiting Ptolemy during the week, he is patient with his uncle’s every qualm and whim.

He delivers food, checks up on Ptolemy’s well-being, and takes him to the doctor, banks, or even out to dine.

But Reggie’s been contemplating moving which means he won’t be able to come to help Ptolemy anymore. He even tries to explain to his uncle that he’s facing a dangerous situation surrounding his wife’s ex-boyfriend who is violent and currently in jail.

But since we sometimes view scenes from Ptolemy’s perspective, we’re unable to comprehend just exactly what Reggie says.

When Ptolemy is expecting Reggie’s next visit, his other nephew Hillard comes round, being the bearer of bad news: Reggie is murdered and his assailant is unknown.

In what could be a case of prejudice against Black people, the police show no interest in pursuing this case.

Ptolemy is beyond devastated and vows to find Reggie’s killer and bring him to justice.

As of now, we don’t have many clues to go on. One obvious answer could be the ex-boyfriend that Reggie was trying to tell Ptolemy about. Or, it could be someone else altogether.

Through some initial investigation, Ptolemy finds out that Reggie met the man in a shady neighborhood. The killer has one very identifiable feature which is a scar on his face.

But other than questions about Reggie’s death, you can’t help but wonder about a few other things, too—like why is Reggie the only family member showing up to take care of Ptolemy?

What is the significance of Ptolemy’s traumatic flashbacks, and are they in any way connected to Reggie’s murder?

Episode 3 will air this Friday, March 18. I’m anticipating more answers then!
