The season 3 finale of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan featured a tense close call after John Krasinski’s titular character stopped World War 3 with the help of his new and old allies. The nail-biting episode executed multiple missions’ side by side, with Ryan and Luca at sea trying to actively stop World War 3 and Greer, November, and Kovac uncovering the coup led by Alexei Petrov. And being the brave man Greer is, he puts himself in direct danger for his nation’s sake, resulting in viewers believing Ryan’s longtime ally will not make it out of season 3.
After the three sneak into Kremlin via the secret tunnels, Greer promises his colleagues he’ll safely make it back and heads out to get captured by Petrov’s men. Succeeding in that, Greer pulls out the diplomatic guns, trying to talk his way out with Petrov and asking him to stop the coup.
Of course, this was not his sole plan, and his hidden motive was to buy some time for November and Kovac to persuade Serikov that Petrov was behind the former president’s murder. With Petrov’s confession in hand, the duo did just that. After Petrov was put down, Serikov freed Greer, November, and Kovac, owing them his gratitude.
After returning to the US, newly appointed CIA director Elizabeth Wright honors Jack and James with Medals of Honor for their exemplary service to the nation and prevention of global destruction. The red notice from Jack Ryan’s file is revoked, and the two rejoin the CIA, awaiting the next big adventure.
Of course, we knew James Greer would be spared from any fatal harm since actor Wendell Pierce was slated to return for the fourth and final season of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. So, in the end, our heroes successfully averted a nuclear war and are now on call for their next and last journey.
