Does Bloodborne have New Game Plus in PS4 & PS5? Post-Completion Guide

FromSoftware’s games, such as Bloodborne, are a few of the best gaming experiences a gamer can have, even the ones reluctant to try something even remotely challenging. It’s baffling how these games, especially Bloodborne, are considered one of the most challenging and brutal games by a substantial audience, although they should not be.

While most games make you feel godly against opponents, Bloodborne does the opposite, making you feel inadequate against trivial enemies, let alone major bosses.

As a result, unsurprisingly, players return to this game years after its release to conquer the land of Yharnam and the Nightmares. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, Bloodborne’s difficulty focuses some serious questions on the game’s replayability.

Fortunately, Bloodborne does have New Game Plus. Once you beat the game, your saved game file will automatically kick-start New Game Plus, and the second playthrough will begin. Also, the enemies are significantly stronger, and the blood echo rewards are substantially higher in New Game Plus of Bloodborne.

Moreover, once you complete a New Game Plus run in Bloodborne, the second NG+ run beings, also known as NG++. In total, the enemy difficulty level increases up to NG+6, the seventh playthrough. After that, the core game difficulty peaks, so there’s virtually no reason to continue game cycles beyond the completion of NG+6.

Here’s more about post-game and starting a new game in Bloodborne.

Does Bloodborne have post-game?

First Ending in Bloodborne

Unfortunately, Bloodborne does not have post-game. Although the game consists of a DLC, The Old Hunters, players must play it before defeating the final boss and beating the main story. Once you complete the main campaign in Bloodborne, New Game Plus begins almost immediately, and you can’t engage with the unattended bosses or items.

However, that’s not to say that players can’t access unattended content at all.

Once you complete the main story and an NG+ run begins, you’ll have to go by the story chronologically and unlock quests one by one. And since players can unlock the DLC only by defeating Vicar Amelia and receiving the Eye of the Blood-drunk Hunter, they’ll have to do it all over again in NG+ to gain access to The Old Hunters.

Simply put, once you unlock chapters and quests in the first “new game” run in Bloodborne and don’t participate in it, you must unlock them again in the same manner, to play them in New Game Plus.

Can you still play Bloodborne after you complete the game?

Moon Presence in Bloodborne

Technically, you can still play Bloodborne after you complete its main story. Once players return to the Hunter’s Dream and achieve one of the three possible endings in the game, the game automatically transfers them over to New Game Plus for the next playthrough. So, even though you’re not continuing the same campaign, you’re still playing Bloodborne after beating it.

However, if you want to continue playing the same campaign in Bloodborne, you must reach the point-of-no-return. The point-of-no-return is the fight against Moon Presence which comes moments before achieving the third ending in the game.

After defeating Gehrman in the Hunter’s Dream, follow the instructions and encounter Moon Presence. Subsequently, when you die to Moon Presence, the game will allow you to continue exploring the game at will. Also, you can re-enter this boss fight at any point you want.

Chalice Dungeon in Bloodborne

There are a bunch of things to do in Bloodborne after completing it. You can start by reading item descriptions, achieving alternate endings, exploring secret bosses and areas, running a new campaign with a new build, and playing the DLC (in case you missed it). In addition, players can indulge in the PvP mode and discover various Chalice Dungeons.

Nevertheless, the first thing you have to do after completing Bloodborne is start New Game Plus.

So, it’s important to note that you participate in the above activities after losing to the final boss knowingly in the game or in the second playthrough, NG+. This is because engaging in these activities before reaching the point-of-no-return doesn’t count as doing them after completion.

Additionally, players can spend time collecting various upgrade items, maxing out weapons, completing NPC side quests, and unlocking a plethora of in-game trophies.

Starting a New Game in Bloodborne

When you start a new game in Bloodborne, the game automatically creates a new character and gives it a new world. As a result, you begin a fresh campaign from scratch with zero progress. Furthermore, you retain the progress made by your previous character, so you need not worry about having your data overwritten.

If you wish to start a new game in Bloodborne, click “New Game” on the title screen, which will automatically lead to character creation. Also, you can manage multiple characters by heading down to the “Load Game” tab.
