Does Alfred Die In The Batman (2022)?

Ahead of The Batman’s release, there were numerous rumors and leaks surrounding the life and death of our favorite butler Alfred Pennyworth.

Users on platforms such as Twitter and Reddit mentioned how Andy Serkis’ Alfred would die in Matt Reeves’ The Batman.

While Alfred does die in the comic books, everyone wondered if it’s the same comic book adapted by Matt Reeves. If so, would he modify the storylines or stay true to the comics?

Well, I’ve got answers to all these questions for you. But before you move forward, here’s a spoiler warning for all those who haven’t watched the film.

Alfred does not die in The Batman. He gets hospitalized after being attacked by The Riddler, who sent a letter bomb to Batman, he gets hospitalized. However, he manages to recover and live to see another day.

Well, the rumors are so close yet so far from what happens in the film. Although I must say that when I saw Alfred being blown up, I almost gasped and just for a second thought that we’d lose this character and Bruce would lose his most loyal friend.

Considering everything Bruce is already going through in the movie, this would’ve broken him further and pushed him over the edge. But lucky for everyone, Alfred was very much alive in the film.

Let me tell you how it went down without going into too much detail. The Riddler was in an orphanage owned by Thomas and Martha Wayne.

He had grown to despise Thomas and hence as revenge, decided to send Batman a letter and, along with it, a small present in the form of a bomb.

Unfortunately, it landed up with Alfred, and he got severely injured. However, he didn’t really die and was shown to be recovering in the film, leaving no doubts of his survival.

While Alfred is living in the movies, in the comics, he does die. Bane, one of the biggest archnemesis of Batman, takes Alfred hostage and warns Batman and his allies not to set foot in Gotham again.

Alfred knew that Bruce would come for him even if it cost his life. So he decides to sacrifice himself. He chooses to die at the hands of Bane so that batman can save the city. It was perhaps one of the saddest deaths in DC comic book history.

In The Batman, Alfred’s role is pretty different from what we’ve seen so far. Andy Serkis has a certain kind of charm that makes us look at Alfred less like a father figure and more as a concerned friend to Bruce Wayne.

Don’t worry. There are no more spoilers coming your way. If you’ve not watched the film yet, watch it at your nearest theatre.

Alternatively, if you’re waiting for it to stream, here’s some good news for you. The Batman will release on HBO Max after 45 days of its release on April 19, 2022. Until then, stay safe from all the spoilers.
