Threat of the Daleks Back to Haunt Doctor Who and Co. for New Year’s

To absolutely no one’s surprise, the Daleks are back for another Doctor Who New Year’s special and bring with them a déjà vu.

BBC revealed the promo for the 2022 special, titled Eve of the Daleks, and it seems like The Doctor will face Skaro’s deadliest mutants again, and again, and again as The Doctor is caught in a time loop.

Chris Chibnall’s fourth special will feature the creatures for the third time following 2019’s Resolution and 2021’s Revolution of the Daleks.

The thirteenth Doctor, Dan, and Yaz will be joined by guest stars Aisling Bea and Adjani Salmon as they’re trapped in an ELF storage.

The clip sees them experiencing some sort of déjà vu as they’re faced with the Daleks. They don’t just turn to ashes when zapped by the creatures but keep reappearing in the exact same place each time they try to escape.

According to the official synopsis for the special, Bea plays Sarah, who owns and runs the ELF storage, and Salmon plays Nick, a customer who visits his unit every year on New Year’s Eve.

The crew is “stuck in a terrifying time loop with the Daleks,” and the synopsis teases, “Will the gang manage to avoid extermination and escape the storage facility in time to see out New Year’s Day?”

Of course, they have to make it out alive! How else will The Doctor regenerate into the fourteenth Doctor when the time arrives?

Jodie Whittaker’s time as The Doctor is almost up. Now that Doctor Who: Flux has reached its fairly satisfactory conclusion that appeased fans

with the exception of Jericho’s death, the special seems just as interesting.

Chibnall will exit with Whittaker, returning the reins to former showrunner Russell T. Davies. The fourteenth Doctor, whose actor is still a mystery, will replace Whittaker in time for the BBC’s Centenary celebrations.

Eve of the Daleks will air on BBC One, BBC iPlayer, and BBC America on January 1, 2022.
