Legendary mangaka Akira Toriyama has created several masterpieces that Dragon Ball Z has overshadowed. However, one of his underrated creations is finally receiving an anime adaptation after 24 long years.
The ‘SAND LAND’ movie was a hit at Comic-Con San Diego on July 22, 2023, and became a fan favorite. It is inspiring a new anime that will expand on the movie’s plot, opening up countless possibilities for exciting new adventures.
It was recently revealed that the franchise will get an anime series called ‘SAND LAND: THE SERIES.’ Disney+ Star will stream it worldwide on its “STAR Anime Series” programming block in spring 2024.
Disney+ teased a key visual featuring the main characters, Beelzebub, Thief, and Sheriff Rao, transversing through the desert.
The movie takes place in a barren wasteland called ‘Sand Land,’ inhabited by humans and demons. Due to the high cost of water, the people of ‘Sand Land’ are constantly thirsty.
An old sheriff enlists the help of Beelzebub to find the elusive Phantom Lake. They confront the king’s army and uncover the truth behind several mysteries.
We will see unreleased clips from the movie and famous scenes from the original manga. To top it off, Toriyama has created a brand-new story that continues from the film.
The same cast and staff members from the film are returning to continue their fantastic work for the franchise.
Sand Land impressively addresses global issues such as war, corporate greed, and climate change with ease of understanding. The creator’s passion and talent are evident, making it a must-see.

‘SAND LAND’ is a short manga series by Akira Toriyama. It was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine from May to August 2000 and was collected into one tankōbon volume in November 2000 by Shueisha.
A CGI anime film adaptation was released in August 2023, and an original net animation (ONA) series will be streamed worldwide on Disney+ and Hulu in Q2 2024. An action role-playing video game developed by ILCA and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment is set to be released in April 2024.
The story is set in a war-torn future where only a barren wasteland is left and a greedy king controls the water supply. It follows the demon king’s son Beelzebub, his assistant Thief, and Sheriff Rao on a quest to find a long-lost river. The trio encounters many foes on their adventurous journey, including the greedy king’s army.
