Black Panther 2 Takes Disney Past $3 Billion at Global Box Office

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever hit theaters on November 11, 2022, and on its first three-day weekend, the film crossed the $300M mark at the international box office.

The awaited sequel not only added another notch to Marvel’s post of greatest openings but also pushed Disney past the $3 billion mark at the global box office for 2022. The famous studio gave audiences more than ten movies this year after the long lockdown period during the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Deadline, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever pushed Disney’s total income for 2022 past the $3 billion line, making this Disney’s fourteenth year to bring in this tremendous revenue. The sequel also scored in fifth place as one of the highest-grossing openings of the pandemic era.

The MCU films have contributed to the majority of the billions earned by Disney, with other MCU films like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder making $955 and $761 million, respectively.

Other Disney films released this year with a successful run at the global box office were Death on the Nile and Lightyear, earning a global income of $138M and $227M, respectively.

With less than a week passed since its opening day at the box office, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s global release has added $381M to Disney’s revenue account, and it’s still projected to earn at least $100M further the following week.

Disney’s projections look greener than ever with Avatar: The Way of Water awaiting its December release and other films, including Strange World and Empire of Light.

2022 is definitely a good year for Disney, who had a tough time keeping the boat steady with the limited revenue during the pandemic era, solely depending on their streaming business for the majority of their income.

And by the looks of it, Disney will outdo itself in 2023, with release of films such as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Marvels, Indiana Jones 5, and The Little Mermaid.
