Frozen III’s Announcement By Disney Will Thaw Your Frozen Heart!

It’s snow time again! Disney has finally announced that Frozen 3 is in the making, four years after the release of Frozen II.

Frozen II hit theaters in late 2019, and caused snowstorms across the box office, becoming the highest-grossing animated film of all time, a record previously held by the first Frozen film. Led by an ensemble cast featuring Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, and Josh Gadd, the franchise has been one of the most successful animated franchises in theatrical history.

Frozen won an Oscar in the Best Animated Feature Film category in 2014, while Frozen II received a nomination in the Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures category in 2020. After the earth-shattering success of the first two films, fans have been expecting a third film for quite some time.

Finally, in a recent quarterly call with Disney investors, CEO Bob Iger announced that Frozen III is in development at Walt Disney Studios. The much-awaited threequel’s announcement came almost four years after the sequel broke all records at the box office.

Along with Frozen III, Iger also confirmed that Toy Story 5 and Zootopia 2 are also in the making. Disney has not revealed much about the projects, all of which seem to be in the early stages of development.

After the record-breaking box office success of Frozen I and II, it is expected that Frozen III will also match the same levels. The first two films tell the story of Elsa and Anna as they go on snow-filled adventures with Olaf, Kristoff and Sven. Both films are known for their stellar voice-acting, iconic soundtrack and brilliant animation work.

At the end of Frozen II, Anna and Kristoff got married and took up shared responsibilities in the Kingdom of Arendelle. Kristoff was already named the Official Arendelle Ice Master and Deliverer in Frozen, but Anna became the Queen of Arendelle in Frozen II.

There are still a lot of ways in which Elsa’s story could be explored in the upcoming third installment of the franchise. Previously, we saw Elsa misuse her power several times which led to major problems for people around her, which is understandable, considering she was actually being set up as the villain in Frozen.

Frozen III could bring in newer threats to their lives, which Elsa can then help resolve as she is now far more confident in handling her powers. The film can also include a time jump to further the story, just like there was a three-year time gap between Frozen and Frozen II.

Having said that, it might be a while before Frozen III actually hits theaters. Frozen II took four years to reach theaters, so let’s see how long it takes for Frozen III to come around.
