Did the Ms. Marvel Finale Hint at Mutants/Inhumans?

Jersey City now has its own superhero in the MCU, with Kamala Khan finally claiming the title of Ms. Marvel. The Disney+ TV series has essentially been based on the theme of identity, symbolized by the gradual reveal of her costume.

Ms. Marvel Episode 6 feels like Kamala Khan’s first outing as a superhero, simply because she’s in costume and fully accepted by the people of her city.

Damage Control is Kamala’s first real villain, introduced in the Episode 1 post-credits of Ms. Marvel, and it appears that they are the enforcers of the Sokovia Accords in the post-Endgame era.

Thanks to her connections with the Red Daggers, Jersey’s new superhero is able to keep Damage Control from Kamran, effectively getting him to leave the country.

Ms. Marvel Episode 6 is packed with MCU references and Easter eggs, including the explicit setup for the X-Men and The Marvels.

First of all, Ms. Marvel got her official title when her father called her that, late in the episode. She also said, “Embiggen,” which is a common word she says when using her powers in the comics, even though her powers on-screen are very different.

In contrast to her comic book counterpart, she underwent a substantial change to get those powers. The comics portray Kamala Khan as possessing the inhuman gene. In the MCU, however, she has a mutant gene.

In the last moments of the episode, Bruno Carrelli told Kamala Khan that he found a “mutation” in her genes that other humans do not have. As Bruno said, “mutation,” a rendition of the theme song from X-Men: The Animated Series played and the song is named in the episode’s credits.

And just like that, the mutant gene was introduced to Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Following Disney’s acquisition of Fox’s film and TV empire, Marvel regained the film rights to mutants, and fans have eagerly awaited their arrival in the MCU.

Kamala rolls her eyes and observes that her genetic anomaly will just mean that she gets another label—and she is absolutely right.

Professor X was quite recently featured in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where the X-Men leader of an alternate universe was killed off almost immediately upon his introduction.

The Earth-838 sequence in Doctor Strange 2 was the first time Marvel Studios used a character we had previously seen in X-Men films. It has now been revealed that Earth-616 (as it was called in the Doctor Strange sequel) carries the mutant gene.

A post-credits scene revealed that Kamala Khan is a mutant in the MCU. Kamala Khan will also appear in The Marvels, releasing in 2023.

The Ms. Marvel post-credit scene features Captain Marvel! Ms. Marvel is now the most recent appearance of Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, who previously appeared in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ credits.

It appears that Kamala and Carol Danvers have swapped places in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, presumably implying that they will meet in The Marvels and eventually work together, with Monica Rambeau joining them.

The show’s timing of these reveals is really interesting. Marvel Studios will host its “mega panel” on Saturday at San Diego Comic-Con. Could there be an X-Men reveal in the near future? We’ll keep our fingers crossed!

Ms. Marvel’s finale is now streaming on Disney+.
