Developers Naughty Dog postpone The Last of Us Multiplayer title

The Last of Us: Part 1 has been plagued with several issues since its launch. The developers, Naughty Dog, have released multiple patches and hotfixes to mitigate the issue.

Naughty Dog is keen on preventing any slip-ups this time around and has confirmed that they are planning on giving the multiplayer version of The Last of Us some more time as it would be best for the game.

Understandably, this was done given “quality control and long-term viability.” They made the smart move of going for quality over giving the players imperfect content.

While nothing has been mentioned to date officially or via leaks about the multiplayer project, it was gaining traction online, and many fans speculated it would be expanding on the Factions mode in the original Last of Us.

The announcement came after most players and fans of the franchise were left wondering about the absence of the Last of Us, especially from the PlayStation showcase on 24th May.

With the announcement and reveal of the gameplay trailers for Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Spider-Man 2, and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater remake, amongst others, the Last of Us multiplayer project was missing.

Although there were rumors that Sony was holding on to the games showcased at the event, the developers Naughty Dog came off clean about it.

In the same announcement, they asked the community not to worry as there was a solid roadmap in place for The Last of Us.  They confirmed that the team will continue to work on the multiplayer project.

On top of this, they would also be working on a “brand new single-player experience.” They promised more details soon.

The report by Bloomberg also mentioned that Sony has slowed down development, and the team in charge is being scaled down after an evaluation. Many developers have been moved to other projects.

With Sony looking to release as many as ten titles in this AAA category by 2026, they’re certainly headed in the right direction with the recently acquired Bungie unveiling a revived version of Marathon.

The gamers must keep their expectations realistic and not be too hopeful, as it could be disastrous. This has been the trend in 2023, and it’s good to see developers be mindful of the products they push into the market.
