God Of War Fullscreen Update May Never Happen According to a Developer

God Of War’s 2018 reboot was hailed as a masterpiece on the PlayStation 4, and that trend has continued onto the PC platform with the release in January. It was a smart move for Sony, especially considering God Of War Ragnarok is right around the corner. No doubt, many PC fans will wonder what’s in store for Kratos and Atreus next; some may even invest in a PlayStation console.

However, not everything is perfect with the PC port. While the game has been doing phenomenally on Steam, a very highly requested mode will, sadly, not be coming to the game. In a recent post on the Steam community, one of the developers who uses the handle Matt_sms has made it clear that the studio is not likely to add a fullscreen mode to the game. Currently, players can enable “borderless fullscreen,” but the post says Santa Monica has “no plans” to include “Exclusive fullscreen.”

There are several reasons for not adding this mode to the game, and many of them are related to visual acuity and optimization. For this current topic, Matt_sms stated that the current borderless fullscreen mode is suited for things like VSync and G-Sync, which would reduce screen tearing during play. It would also benefit upscaling technologies like NVIDIA’s DLSS and AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution. The team has said they will improve the current fullscreen mode available in the game.

This may be disappointing news to some, but the comments under the post were overall understanding of the developers’ challenges and limitations. God Of War has done amazingly well on Steam and is currently rated as “Overwhelmingly Positive.” So, the news of no exclusive fullscreen is unlikely to damage the title’s reputation.

Fans are also eagerly awaiting the next installment in the franchise, God Of War Ragnarok. There is no definite release date given for the sequel, but we know it will launch sometime this year, possibly in Q3 or Q4.
