Dead Space demake is out now with a retro look for the original game

Dead Space initially came out for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows PC in 2008. It is a survival horror game published and marketed by Electronic Arts.

A remake of the game has been out on Steam since January 27th, 2023, it had more than just visual upgrades to its name. There were changes to the side-quests, interconnectivity, main-story line as well as to zero gravity feature.

A new remake going by the name of “Dead Space Demake” has been released by an enthusiast Modder Fraser Burnley on Twitter. It is not an official remake but a fairly successful attempt at giving the OG fans a peek back into the time with a dated look for the new game.

As per reports by “Bloody Disgusting,” the indie developer has done much more than mere fan service with the demake, which has been in the works for a while now.

It is the complete opposite of an upgrade or a “remake.” As the name suggests, the demake takes the fans and enthusiasts back in time with a dated look.

Released on itch.io, it promises players a trip back in time to the PlayStation-I era with a vintage look to the game which went live for free download on 10th April.

The current era of remakes is marked by the significant remake of Resident Evil 4, which is doing well in the market currently. The choice of bringing back old games is more than feeding nostalgia but also reaping the benefits attached to it.

Dead Space was considered one of the scariest games of all time, on par with legendary titles like Silent Hill and Outlast. It makes sense for Burnley to feed the hunger of the OG fans with a well-made demake.

It would also be one of the very few large-scale games to be given a fan-made retro look, putting to rest speculations on how the game would look if given a retro look. The gameplay remains largely unchanged; it’s only the visual assets that the Modder has modified.

The demake has received great praise throughout the community and beyond it. Fraser has gone on to confirm that there are similar projects in work that are likely to be released in the future.

This continues the trend of Isaac Clarke games being retro-fied. Previously, in 2022, someone showed what Dead Space would look if made in the style of a classic Resident Evil Game developed in the 90s.

A quick scroll through the fan community will show that they’re hoping for a Dead Space 2 remake and possibly also hoping for a new installment for the franchise. It will be interesting to see in which direction the demake steers the franchise’s future.

About Dead Space Remake

6Dead Space Remake is the next-gen remake of the 2008 sci-fi action horror franchise developed by Visceral Games and published by Electronic Arts. The Remake is being handled by EA Motive and is set to feature various upgrades to the visuals, sound, and gameplay.

Dead Space follows the story of Isaac Clarke, an engineer on board an intergalactic mining ship called the USSG Ishimura. On discovering an ancient artifact known as The Marker, the ship is overrun by a species of aliens called Necromorphs. With the aliens turning the crew into one of their own, Isaac must fight through the hordes as he tries to find a way to get back to Earth.

The gameplay is reminiscent of the Resident Evil franchise, with inventory management being a key component. Players have access to a variety of mining tools that become weapons and must navigate the claustrophobic corridors of the Ishimura while fighting off the Necromorphs.
