DC League of Super-Pets: Anubis in Post-Credits Scene Explained

DC League of Super-Pets premiered in theaters on July 29, 2022. The animated superhero comedy has generally received positive reviews, but it’s the post-credits scene that has garnered the most attention from DC fans. Dwayne Johnson, a part of the film’s voice cast, also voiced two surprising entries in the WB film—Black Adam and his super-pet Anubis!

The computer-animated film stars voice actors Dwayne Johnson as Krypto the Super Dog, Kevin Hart as Ace the Bathound, Kate McKinnon as Lulu the evil Guinea Pig, Vanessa Bayer as PB the Pig, Natasha Lyonne as Merton McSnurtle the Turtle, Diego Luna as Chip the Squirrel, John Krasinski as Superman, and Keanu Reeves as Batman.

The film focuses on Krypto the Super Dog and Ace the Bathound forming a team of super-pets with PB, Merton, and Chip to save the Justice League, who have been kidnapped by Lulu, the evil hairless guinea pig.

The 2022 film features two end-credits scenes. The mid-credits scene shows that Lulu has survived and been saved by Mercy Graves, Lex Luthor’s assistant, which might signal an evil team-up in the future. But the big surprise awaits fans in the post-credits scene where we see the standoff between Superman and Black Adam!

Granted, this is not the showdown fans were expecting to see. Black Adam is coming to the DCEU by the end of 2022, and Dwayne Johnson has teased a Superman cameo, even if it only makes the end credits.

The post-credits scene opens with Superman headed out with his pet dog Krypto for a walk in the park. The alien and super dog play catch with a squishy Batman toy when Krypto suddenly finds the toy whisked from under his nose.

Who could be strong and fast enough to outdo Krypto? It’s none other than Anubis, the super-pet of the anti-hero Black Adam, who also makes an appearance in the post-credits scene.

Krypto demands his toy back, “That’s my toy,” to which Anubis the dog, replies, “Then why is it in my mouth?” setting up a tense scene broken up by an amusing yet insightful debate on the difference between a villain and an anti-hero.

When Krypto challenges Anubis by asking if Black Adam can fly to Pluto, Anubis cockily answers, “Watch him,” and flies off with Black Adam in tow, earning a quick laugh from the audience as Krypto picks his toy back to enjoy his day with Superman.

The video was shared by Dwayne Johnson on Instagram, where he explained in the caption that he voiced Krypto, Anubis, and Black Adam in the animated scene. He even teased that this exciting verbal match between Anubis and Krypto won’t compare to the “earth-shattering Black Adam VS Superman showdown one day.”

DC fans now have higher hopes and expectations for Dwayne Johnson to return as Black Adam in the live-action DCEU film showing the origins of the villain, ah sorry, antihero.
