The story of the Astrea Family is finally brought into the open in episode 9 of Is It Wrong To Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? IV titled “Astrea family (heroic death).”
A flashback to the past finally shows us the conclusion of the Astrea Family’s mission, going successful and effortless until the entrance of a monster much beyond their comprehension, the strength of which overpowered the entire family, leaving them all dead.
Ryu carries on living with the guilt of the survivor, with the blood of her best friend on her hands and the sadness of not being able to complete her final mission and avenge her friends.

Ryu and Bell have finally reached a resting spot with some potable water and will likely rest and heal up before proceeding further into the cave. Now that they will be in perfect condition again, they may face a boss fight soon since they have only faced minions.
The other party is also slowly proceeding down the cave and may find evidence of Bell and Ryu scattered on the way and encountering the same monsters they were able to avoid stealthily.

A flashback to the past shows us the power of the Astrea family as they manage to power through multiple massive explosions without breaking a sweat. Their battle is interrupted by a giant beast as it immediately kills two of their members.
Lion breaks out in a blind rage and immediately attacks but is knocked back and needs to be protected, causing another to lose her arm entirely. The family gets picked out individually as the monster chases them down with ease, and Lion can do nothing but watch.
Alise decides to lay down her and the other members’ lives to save Lion and carry her ideals to the future. The three remaining family sprint towards the beast, sacrificing their lives to take it out in a combined effort, using all their abilities to cover for Lion’s spell.
Ryu lands a massive blast of Luminous Wind, but the beast dodges it and leaves the area leaving nothing but a broken girl behind. She begged Lady Astrea to leave the city so she could carry out her mission without involving anyone else.
She took out people and buildings related to the Rudra family; it wasn’t justice anymore but pure hatred and vengeance as she cut down everything related to Jura. She felt lost after she finishes her mission but remains alive in the end.
Syr rescues her at the end of it all as she lies in an alleyway, and she sees the vision of her old family turning their backs on her. Bell rescues her from the debris and carries her out of the cave as she keeps criticizing him for not abandoning her.
Bell won’t accept it and continues telling her that, in his perspective, she has always been the righteous hero who has saved his life multiple times. Not even Ryu can convince him otherwise since he doesn’t care about the Ryu of the past.
A monster attacks at the last moment and splits them apart, knocking Bell unconscious and going to eat him, much to Ryu’s despair. But it was just a lure tactic as he blew the beast up once it got close enough.

The story follows the exploits of Bell Cranel, a 14-year-old solo adventurer under the Goddess Hestia. As the only member of the Hestia Familia, he works hard every day in the dungeon to make ends meet while seeking to improve himself.
He looks up to Ais Wallenstein, a famous and powerful swordswoman who once saved his life and fell in love with him.
He is unaware that several other girls, deities and mortals alike, also develop affections towards him, most notably Hestia herself. He also gains allies and improves himself with each new challenge he faces.
