Netflix’s new anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners released its trailer a month ago. Now, weeks before the release of the ten-episode series, Netflix has revealed a more detailed NSFW trailer featuring Night City’s debauchery, murder, and action in a trippy two-minute trailer.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is based on CD Projekt RED’s 2020 RPG Cyberpunk 2077 and a ten-part anime series David and Lucy in Night City. The story follows a recklessly ambitious and talented street kid who is determined to become the top mercenary outlaw in this dystopian world of corruption and cybernetic implants.
Netflix released the first teaser trailer for the sci-fi crime series in June 2022, setting a release period for September. The new NSFW trailer features a confirmed release date at the end of the video, setting the anime’s release date on Netflix as September 13, 2022.
The NSFW trailer opens with Lucy discussing David’s dream of following his dead mother’s wishes, but asks him to follow his own dream. The shot cuts to a three-second countdown by Lucy, following which a visually trippy montage of clips showing the Night City’s most gruesome activities mixed with lots of action and blood.
Moments like David’s first Cyberware implantation and his “Psycho” Braindance are punctuated with dialogs dictating the fate of an Edgerunner. For example, “You either lose your mind or die, no in between,” or, “You don’t make your name as a Cyberpunk by how you live. You are remembered by how you die.”
Studio Trigger’s anime will premiere on Netflix under the direction of Kill La Kill’s Hiroyuki Imaishi, and the showrunner is CD Projekt’s own Rafal Jaki. The trailer has set Cyberpunk fans’ excitement ablaze, and the audience can’t wait to see David take on Night City.
