Dungeons & Dragons Follows the Lore Accurately, Reveals Creators

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves features a band of misfits who go on a quest to procure a mystical item, but the road is treacherous with hidden magic.

The creators were so obsessed with nailing the details from the lore that they involved Wizards of the Coast in the filming to fact-check every little detail from the movie and ensure that it follows the game’s rules.

While the film doesn’t show every intricate detail of Dungeons and Dragons, it promises to be a comedic retelling of the things people enjoy about D&D.

In an interview with Collider, producer Jeremy Latcham revealed that Wizards of the Coast members were so heavily involved in the filming that they even contributed to the character designs at times.

Here’s what he had to say:

They are kind of like real wizards. No, they were very involved though, in the actual design of the dragon. It was tremendously weighed on a ton of stuff in the lore, but the dragons themselves, there was so much lore-specific stuff about exactly where the fin goes and exactly how the thumb works.

But why is it important to care about every little detail of the D&D game?

While it may seem too uptight to care about the film’s accuracy to such an extent, it is of paramount importance. Honor Among Thieves borrows the concept of a class system from the game. Thus, the canon game’s magic and other vital powers must be maintained.

This will ensure that the rules are watertight for the movie and that the audience is not confused. The rules also play a pivotal role in the movie’s plot progression. For instance, a Bard needs their instrument to use magic. This seemingly inconspicuous detail will be very important in the progression of Pine’s character in the movie.

Sticking too close to the lore has a flip side as well. The movie has been criticized for sticking too close to the books.

Many D&D players have changed classes and races to add new characteristics, but it will not be shown in the movie. For instance, Doric is a member of the race called Tieflings. The race has adapted to have purple, green, or blue skin. However, the character in the film doesn’t show these characteristics, which has generated a lot of controversies.

These controversies may be detrimental to how the film performs at the box office post-release on March 31, 2023.

The gang members can hardly get along with one another, but some weird incidents bring them together. They will have to get together to save the world from a disaster.

The movie is a supernatural fantasy thriller interspersed with moments of comedic relief. The creators have already revealed the strangest D&D character, the Gelatinous Cube, which is not friendly. The lack of parity between the members will give rise to many golden comedic moments in the film.

With the premiere date inching closer with every passing day, the fans can’t wait to watch the D&D lore unfold before their eyes.
