For the uninitiated, Good Omens is a British fantasy comedy series based on Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s 1990 novel of the same name. It is directed by Douglas Mackinnon and stars Michael Sheen and David Tennant in lead roles.

The series had a very welcome reception due to the popularity its novel enjoys and earned generally favorable reviews. The series was renewed for a second season in June 2021 and will be released on Amazon Prime Video on July 28, 2023.

Set in 2018, Season 1 follows angel Aziraphale and demon Crowley as they team up and stop the approaching Armageddon. Overly fond of life on Earth, they set out to find the missing Antichrist, who is himself unaware of his destiny to end humanity.

Creator and writer of Good Omens TV series Neil Gaiman has revealed the early reactions of David Tennant and Jon Hamm to the show’s second season. Tennant plays Crowley, the loose-living demon, and Hamm brings Gabriel, the leader of the forces of Heaven, to life on-screen in the drama.

On his personal Tumblr account, Neil Gaiman revealed that the audiences could keep up their expectations for Good Omens Season 2. While answering fan questions, Gaiman wrote about how two crucial cast members, Tennant and Hamm, had reacted after watching the show.

When a fan named ‘edibleeel’ asked about whether David Tennant and Michel Sheen had seen the second season and whether they had shared their thoughts with him, Gaiman replied:

“They’ve both been sent it. I know David has seen it because he left me a stunned video message about how he only planned to watch the first episode and watched the whole thing and how wonderful it was. Michael has been directing his first TV series, and I don’t think he’s had a spare 5 hours to watch anything yet, although I know he wants to.

Jon Hamm has also seen it and loves it

Gaiman’s words affirm that we can keep our hopes up about Season 2 and expect it to fulfill our expectations. We will have to wait and watch to know what exactly has Tennant and Hamm in love with the upcoming season.

While Good Omens Season 1 was based on Gaiman’s and Pratchett’s novel, Season 2 is not a book adaptation. It is based on the authors’ ideas for an unmade sequel titled 668-The Neighbour of the Beast. Thus, unlike the previous season, fans are unaware of what to expect.

668-The Neighbour of the Beast will delve into Gabriel’s origins before the events of Season 1. Good Omens Season 2 is expected to have six episodes, and the plot will be completely original.

It will pick up after the finale of Season 1, where Aziraphale and Crowley have successfully averted the apocalypse and, by a hair’s breadth, escaped their executions.

Season 2 will see new additions to the cast, including Shelley Conn, Dame Sian Phillips, Peter Davison, Ty Tennant, and several others. Nina Sosanya, Maggie Service, Quelin Sepulveda, Miranda Richardson, and others will appear as new, different characters.

The forthcoming season will also not see the major characters played by Adria Arjona, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Frances McDormand. However, Sheen, Tenant, and most of the crew will return to the audience’s joy.

As not much has been revealed about the upcoming season’s plot, we have no choice but to wait for its release. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for an even better Season 2!
