Cowboy Bebop Live-Action: Writer Teases Changes from Original

Twenty years after its first premiere on Japanese TV, it was announced that the international classic Cowboy Bebop would have a rebirth in a live-action avatar on Netflix.

However, fans were in for a disappointment when the highly-anticipated series was halted after its lead actor John Cho injured his knee while on the shoot.

Despite the delays in production, the creators are doing their best to get the TV series on Netflix as soon as possible.

Recently io9, a sci-fi news website had an interview with Javier Grillo-Marxuach, the writer for Cowboy Bebop’s live-action adaptation. He mentioned a few details about the production of the show.

Grillo-Marxuach confirmed that the live-action will show Ein as a corgi, just like the original anime. He also mentioned that the production will stay loyal to the essence and style of the anime, saying

“If you’re doing Cowboy Bebop, you’re doing Cowboy Bebop.”

As for a more controversial issue like Faye’s character, he mentioned that the outfit Faye wears will be toned down a bit. They will not cut out her smoking habit as it is a part of her character, but they will make sure to not glamorize it.

In addition to this, Grillo-Marxuach mentioned that the show will not launch till all episodes of the first season are ready as this show is meant to be watched in one go.

Set in the year 2071, roughly 50 years following a calamity (that’s nearly 2020!) that makes Earth uninhabitable, the series follows 5 of a crew of bounty hunters.

With humans scattered across Earth’s immediate cosmos, Inter Solar System Police hires the likes of this crew to help hunt criminals. For the right price, these rag tags will even save the world if need be.
