Episode 7 of “Couple of Cuckoos” has continued the trend of keeping the heat cranked up to eleven. This time, we are taking two massive steps too far, all at once.
We get a confession from not only Hiro, Nagi’s long-time crush, but also the most apparent hint in all of anime history by Erika, his fiancée.
Only Sachi is left out of this romantic quagmire of a drama, who I believe is going to get neck-deep in it very soon.
With Nagi not knowing where his heart belongs anymore and being bombarded with feelings he wasn’t sure existed till about a day ago, this rollercoaster of emotions has only begun for him (and us).
Episode 8 Speculations
Hiro has confirmed her feelings for Nagi and potentially so has Erika. With Nagi standing in the crossfire, nobody knows what the results would be.
Sachi has been out of the picture for a hot while now. With two wild confessions coming at Nagi from out of the absolute nowhere, I can say with certainty that we will have an arc with Sachi in its center.
There could be some new developments in Nagi and Erika’s relationship since Erika has only (very strongly) hinted at her feelings, but the next episode might bring the ceiling down for real this time.
Be it Sachi, Hiro, or Erika; I am incredibly excited to see who it is that gets to Nagi first.

Episode 7 Recap
Nagi has blissfully been on cloud nine ever since he came back from Hiro’s place. Her saying that she entrusted him with her secret because it was a burden he seemed ready to bear was just what Nagi needed to hear to disappear off to dreamland.
Breaking that shimmering mirage, Erika bursts into his room with a handout for their field trip. Erika gives Nagi the pamphlet and tells him that he needs to form a group, but she would not be in it because her family does not permit her for such outings. This implied that he could go and form a group with his crush, Segawa Hiro.
Not knowing another way, a nervous Nagi asks Hiro if she would be ready to go for the field trip, and to his surprise, she agrees. He is then tasked with coming up with an itinerary for the trip, which he is incapable of.
While Nagi is busy crafting unrealistic scenarios in his head, Hiro enters the classroom and decides to help him out with it.
Hiro wishes to go to the shrines around Kamakura, the area they were going to for their trip. Not exactly what Nagi was looking forward to, but it was good enough for him.
As they are finalizing the document, it begins to rain, and Nagi has the fantastic idea to walk home with Hiro under the same umbrella, but she has her own, quashing his hopes once again. Yet, Nagi is persistent.
During their walk back, he brings up the topic of his confession. Hiro is conflicted about talking about it since her parents had always made all decisions for her, she felt like a slave to her fate, but towards the end, she says that she wanted Nagi to free her from it.
That was the motivation Nagi needed to study like a madman, only to be interrupted by Erika. She came bearing news that a random fan of hers had made his way into their group, and now she would be accompanying them so that she could handle him.
On the day of the field trip, the fan presents himself to be Asuma Shion, the most obnoxious human being to exist, period.
Erika tried to take Asuma away while Nagi and Hiro enjoyed their time, but Nagi’s eyes remained glued to Erika from the beginning to the end.
The day ends as Erika and Nagi are left alone at the beach since both their “accomplices” go off on their own.
Now, alone, Erika confronts Nagi about why he had not left with Hiro, but he has no answer to that. Exasperated, she lets it go and takes a picture with him, only for it to be the best picture she had taken on the entire trip.
Nagi is reminded that Erika, too wanted to reach someone with her pictures. Upon asking her, she responds, “Your fate might change if I tell you.” Things are finally beginning to heat up, and I can’t wait to see where Nagi’s fate leads him.

A Couple of Cuckoos or Cuckoo’s Fiance is a manga by Miki Yoshiwara. It was launched in January 2020 in the Weekly Shounen Magazine.
Nagi and Erika were switched at birth and never knew their real parents. On the day that Nagi was supposed to meet his natural parents, he encounters Erika and is roped into helping her out of an arranged marriage.
Both of them pretend to be girlfriend and boyfriend only to realize later that they are actually fated to marry each other.
