Combat mechanics in Assassin’s Creed Mirage have been improved upon

Assassin’s Creed Mirage was released on October 5th and has been Ubisoft’s biggest and most financially profitable title. Fans of the franchise have lauded Ubisoft Bordeaux widely for improving and taking the franchise back to its roots.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage has borrowed the combat mechanics of AC Valhalla but has combined it well with the elements of stealth to give an authentic Assassin’s Creed experience. Combat in Mirage is more skill-based with parries and counters requiring timing and perfection to kill the opposition.

The original Assassin’s Creed titles focused so much on stealth that the combat system was heavily compromised. Players outright avoided combat in the open world since it was so unrewarding.

As time progressed, came the age of the Assassin’s Creed’s RPG-styled games in the form of the Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla. In these titles, combat became of primary focus, somehow shifting away from the elements of stealth.

Combat was revamped in these titles with many new mechanics like parry, dodge roll, and a gear system. However, in Assassin’s Creed Mirage, players have to do more than just button mashing to kill their enemies.

Ubisoft also has removed the timing mechanic for chained assassination wherein pressing square at the right time would instantly kill four guards.

The parries and strikes have to be timed more effectively and skillfully. It also applies to Mirage’s dodge roll, a vital part of the combat mechanic.

This comes into play even more when there are larger groups of enemies. The parrying system also challenges the player to think their attacks through before committing.

This tricky but rewarding combat mechanic also urges players to stick to stealth for taking out guards and enemies. Even though there is less emphasis on stealth, it has come a long way since 2007’s Assassin’s Creed: I.

Players can kill enemies and pet cats in the streets of Baghdad now in Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which is out now.
