Ted Lasso S2 Confirms Coach Beard is the Best Wingman Ever

If you need any more proof that Coach Beard is the best, best friend Ted could ever have, look no further than Season 2’s finale that is ripe with instances.

After Trent Crimm’s revelation, the article itself, and people staring at and whispering about him, the last thing Ted would want is to be probed about the matter.

So when we see Beard waiting on their designated bench, two coffees in hand, it’s comforting to hear him pretend like he doesn’t know anything about the article, until Ted himself is ready to talk about it.

Of course, not only is Beard aware of the article, but he is also sure of the culprit. He not-so-subtly asks Nate about it, hoping he confesses.

But when neither Nate nor Ted talk about the issue, Beard lays it down on Ted that he knows the truth (being the intuitive best mate that he is).

Beard reminds Lasso that it isn’t fair for him to put Nate first at the cost of his own mental and emotional wellbeing.

Ultimately, since how to handle the situation should be Ted’s decision, Coach Beard gets out of his beeswax.

This silent support comes with the funny, vocal affirmation to Nate, “I would be happy to headbutt you,” when Nate owns up to yet another mistake he made but still doesn’t come clean about the article.

Isn’t that what we’d all say to Nate too? Coach Beard got us.

Ted is not the only one who made the risky decision of converting to being a football coach having no experience in the sport before.

Right from the get-go, Coach Beard, who takes the same risk, has been Ted’s wingman — as his assistant filling in the holes in Ted’s football knowledge, and off-field, being there in tough situations like his divorce.

It is also commendable that Beard isn’t afraid to be blunt in situations where Ted needs it. For instance, Beard stood his ground about benching Roy against Ted’s wishes, even though both knew it was the right decision.

Coach Beard is not a man of many words, but he always finds a way to express affinity to this best friend. And for the times he does speak, it is legendary, “baby!”
