Citadel Trailer Release Postponed in Solidarity with Greek Tragedy

The official trailer release for the highly anticipated series, Citadel, from the directing duo Joe and Anthony Russo, who previously worked on Avengers: Endgame, has been postponed.

The series, which is set to debut with its initial two episodes on Prime Video on April 28, is a spy thriller with the Russos as executive producers. The series is created by Josh Appelbaum & Bryan Oh, who have previously worked together on Happy Town, October Road, Life on Mars, and the adaptation of James Patterson’s Zoo.

As per Deadline, the release of the trailer for Citadel was postponed on Wednesday. The reason behind this decision was the tragic train collision in Greece, which claimed the lives of 36 individuals and caused several injuries.

The teaser of the show contains a significant scene on a train, and out of respect for the bereaved families, the release was delayed as a sign of solidarity.

Prime Video’s statement

It’s not uncommon for trailers to be postponed or altered following real-world events, and this was the case with Citadel’s trailer release. However, this decision also aligns with the series’ underlying philosophy. Citadel aims to unite the world by having various spinoffs of the show in Italy, India, Spain, and Mexico, forming a vast global storytelling experiment.

In the first season, viewers will be introduced to this new world as they follow the story of Citadel agent Mason Kane. Citadel is a global intelligence agency that crumbled eight years ago, erasing the memories of Kane and agent Nadia Sinh. However, they are reunited by Bernard Orlick to safeguard the world from the Manticore, an evil syndicate.

Following this, the Indian Citadel series, starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, will be released, with other international spinoffs set to follow at a later time.
